Deadline.com
is reporting that 'Precious' actress Paula Patton has landed the lead female role in the fourth installment of the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise.

The Los Angeles native will play a young operative who works with Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt character. The website also stated that the film will not be called 'Mission: Impossible 4.' Cruise and J.J. Abrams, who hatched the project together, always envisioned it as a franchise reboot. The film begins production in the fall, with Brad Bird directing Cruise, who'll co-star alongside Jeremy Renner, of 'The Hurt Locker,' who landed the other hotly contested role.

Patton, who was recently cast as the new assistant district attorney for the NBC drama series 'Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,' apparently beat out actresses Lauren German and Kristen Kreuk for the coveted spot.

Lionsgate announced that it will release Tyler Perry's 'For Colored Girls' on Nov. 5 instead of its original launch date during Martin Luther King weekend in 2011.

The move, which would put the film in a good position to snag year-end awards consideration, also continues Perry's streak of releasing at least one film per year since 2005.

"It's a serious film that really lends itself to the fall period. From talking with exhibitors, I know they're really excited to have another Tyler Perry film this year," said David Spitz, Lionsgate's executive vice president and general sales manager.

If there's anyone, besides Tyler Perry and Spike Lee, in the film industry currently bringing business to the film community, it's power producer Will Packer of Rainforest Films.

The Florida native's latest film, 'Takers,' just beat out 'The Last Exorcism' for the top spot at the box office despite showing in less theaters and overcoming low predictions from top film analysts.

In the last few years, Packer has attracted some of the most marketable names in the black Hollywood community and given them starring vehicles such as Columbus Short and Chris Brown, who did well with 'Stomp The Yard.' That was Packer's first film to hit number #1 at the box office.

With 'This Christmas,' the film starred Idris Elba, Loretta Devine, Chris Brown, Columbus Short, Regina King, Sharon Leal, and Lauren London. On a budget of $13 million, the film went on to gross $50 million.

UPDATE: According to Comingsoon.net, as of Monday afternoon Sony is claiming the victory for Screen Gems' 'Takers' based on revised estimates including numbers from Sunday where 'The Last Exorcism' fell behind, dropping 45% on Sunday to 32% from 'Takers' and that allowed 'Takers' to win the weekend with $20.5 million to 'Exorcism's $20.4 million. It's still early and one can expect the numbers to be contested with it being so close, but right now, it looks like 'Takers' has indeed kept Lionsgate from having their first-ever third weekend at #1.

If the numbers do hold up, it would mark the third number one film for producer Will Packer after 'Obsessed' with Idris Elba and Beyonce, and 'Stomp The Yard' with Columbus Short and Chris Brown.

While Hollywood has offered an endless amount of heist films to the point where originality doesn't exist with new films, 'Takers' works because of its solid pace and action scenes, including one chase sequence that will have the audience rooting for both the cops and robbers.

With a multi-racial cast that includes Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Tip "T.I." Harris, Michael Ealy, Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen, Zoe Saldana, and Jay Hernandez, there are plenty of attractive names to lure audiences from all sides.

Magnolia Pictures' 'Night Catches Us,' which stars Anthony Mackie and Kerry Washington, will be the opening night film for the 14th annual Urbanworld Film Festival.

The debut feature, from Tanya Hamilton, exposes the realities of African American life during the final days of the Black Power Movement, as potluck suppers, run-ins with the authorities and lingering radicalism threaten to set off a neighborhood teetering on the edge.

Set in Philadelphia in 1976, 'Night' focuses on two former Black Panthers (played by Mackie and Washington) who reunite during the summer before Jimmy Carter's presidential election. As friends forced to confront personal and political demons, the two actors give spectacular performances, while Hamilton's use of an intense soundtrack (by The Roots) and moving archival footage bring to life the history of black resistance.
