I don't know about anyone else, but so far with the exception of the Barbershop films, Cedric The Entertainer has not been funny on the big screen since he made the jump from "The Steve Harvey Show". Out today on DVD is his last film, "The Cleaner". Cedric the Entertainer plays Jake, a seemingly regular guy who has no idea who he is after being hit over the head by mysterious assailants; when he finds himself entangled in a government conspiracy, Jake and his pursuers become convinced that he is an undercover agent.
This lame "James Bond", "Jason Bourne" film was released so early in January this year, folks were STILL celebrating the New Year coming in. Also starring in the film were "Desperate Housewives" star Nicolette Sheridan and Lucy Liu. According to boxofficemojo.com, the film had grosses a measly $8 million at the box office. With "The Honeymooners", "Man of the House", and "Johnson Family Vacation", Cedric needs to write his own jokes and make us laugh again.

I just rented the DVD - The Cleaner...I have not watched it yet...but I agree that Cedric is not funny in films. I have been very disapointed with Cedric since he made the comment about Rosa Parks in the Barbershop movie. I thought the comment he made...showed his lack of comedic talent...so much so that he had to result to saying something negative about the great Rosa Parks. I don't care if Ice Cube or who ever wrote the lines for Cedric to say...as a man...a grown a-s man as he would say...he should have step up and said I am not going to say anything negative about this great woman. I have had a strong dislike for Cedric since he made the negative remark. In trying to select the video...it took more thought on my part to actually bring a video into my home with his face on the cover. I am trying to get over his remarks...I hope the video is funny...but I have a feeling...it's not going to be. If his career in the movies goes down hill...Oh well!..That's karma baby.

Cedric has never really been funny. He is LUCKY and was in the right place at the right time. BUT he is successful. Thats whats important. Many white comedians are not funny either, but they make a mint. Keep making bad movies and get the money. He may not be funny, but he can laugh all the way to the bank.
Basically the ROSA parks thing took him out. But his audience has changed. As long as white people think that he is funny, he is funny.

Do people not understand the concept of acting? You know, pretending to be someone else. Cedric The Entertainer portrayed a character who made the Rosa Parks statement. A very opinionated character from a different era than the rest of the Barbershop characters. Now here's another mind blowing concept for the people who cannot separate an individual from a character in a movie...... that statement came from an actual person that the character was based on or one of the actual people that character was based on.
Maybe if people weren't so narrow minded about 'entertainment' they would appreciate different forms of it. Comedy is great entertainment but so is controversy, tragedy, inspiration, action, sports, and people with unbelievably ridiculous opinions about life that get people talking about important issues.

For whatever reason, some comedians just aren't funny when you hand them a script and put them in front of a camera. Outside of Eddie Murphy, there really hasn't been any breakthrough comedians when they moved onto movies.
Eddie Murphy has that certain "it" quality that makes him bankable even in bad movies. Some have it some don't.
It's much like a person who has a beautiful voice who just can't get over the hump when they make an album.

Jazzy Fizzle...you must be about 12 years old...you don't understand the difference between entertainment and disrespect. There is absolutely nothing humorous about the remarks Cedric made about Rosa Parks. Only a real idiot would confuse the two. You made a statement about the character comming from a different era...what does that have to do with anything...as a man...Cedric should not have made the statement...People that looked like you and Cedric...from that era...would have had your asses on the back of the bus if it were not for Rosa...and for your information...people from that so called era...would not have been in the barber shop talking about Rosa in a negative sense...unless they were jealous of her...most people from that era..praised her for stepping up and taking a stand...People such as you and Cedric if you were from that era..would have just continue to sit in the back of the bus... People from that era would have been in the barber shop talking about the people who were preventing them from sitting in the front of the bus...again Cedric should have step up as a man...and as comedian and gave an alternative response. It is called acting...why didn't he try to do just that. Why didn't he try to be more creative. Steve Harvey and Bernie Mac are far too intelligent to have made the remarks that Cedric made...There is no way Steve or Bernie would have made those remarks...they are very classy and intelligent and understand the importance of giving respect to those who fought for civil rights. They are not as desperate and money hungry as Cedric. Both Steve and Bernie are still funny to me...I saw the movie - Code Name the Cleaner - it was just like I thought - not funny. Showing disrespect for those who fought for civil rights shows a pure lack of intelligence. If Cedric were from that era you were referring to...he would be the first one at the back of the bus...because of Rosa Parks and others...Cedric and you little kid (assuming you are a kid no real adult would try to compare the two - disrespect and entertainment) have rights today that people during that era did not have. There is never anything humorous or entertaining about disrespecting those who fought for civil rights. Only a real illiterate idiot would think otherwise.

Jazzy Fizzle...you talk about a character and acting...what about ad lib.. are you familiar with that since you want to talk about acting...again...Cedric is not creative....and as a man he should have not said anything that was disrespectful to Rosa Parks. Many actors troughout history...have either ad libed a part or offered alternative lines to a part in either a play or movie. What part did you not understand...when it was stated that Cedric did not step up as a man...and denounce making the remark about Rosa...it's not called acting when you decide to disrepect someone for a laugh it's called pathetic.

I'm at a serious loss when it comes to the whole Rosa Parks thing. On one hand, jazzy fizzle does make a good point saying he is just acting. But it was disrespectful. But people had to understand when Cedric read that script and saw that comment, he had a choice: it was stand up for what's "right", or let your children go hungry and not be able to pay your bills. Cedric wasn't no director or producer or writer, he was just a actor and that's what he had to do: act. He acted like he meant all those about Rosa Parks when really he might think she's the greatest in the world. It's kind of disturbing to see black people raise their blood pressure and get riled up over something so insignificant like what was said about someone in a movie. there's bigger things to be upset about.
And when you think about it, all she really did was just sit on a bus.
