While CW's Girlfriends lives on to see an 8th season next year, one of its former stars is quietly racking up on her new venture. Jill Maries Jones, who played Toni Childs and left the show in 2005, hasn't been seen publicly elsewhere but on red carpet appearances, has been working to make a name for herself in the film world. She's got 3 films in the works that should get the attention of many producers looking to cast a good actress. Plus, we need more sistas on the big screen!
First up is "Universal Remote", which will open up the 8th Annual Hollywood Black Film Festival in LA on June 5th. Jones has a supporting role in that film, but she gets a leading status in her next film, the romantic comedy REDRUM. Directed by Carl Seaton, Jones and Kenny Young are the main players in the film. Also feature are Jenifer Lewis, Chris Spencer, Danny Woodburn, Terri Vaughn, Rodney Perry, Joe Torry, and Reginald Ballard.

As the story goes, Brian and Tanya Diggs have always been a timid, law abiding, and somewhat nerdy couple. They've yearned their entire lives to just cut loose and have fun, but they don't know how. They've tried everything, even therapy, and nothing seems to work. They seemed destined to live the rest of their lives in boredom and monotony.
However, late one night Brian finds himself in a challenging confrontation that causes him to finally snap, resulting in him killing someone. Brian confides in Tanya about his murderous deed. Not only has he committed murder, but surprisingly, Brian realized that he truly enjoyed it. His next attempt at murder goes awry, causing Tanya to get involved. She, too, realizes that she enjoys murder. Brian and Tanya have finally found something that gives them the thrill they've been seeking their entire lives... murder!
As the couple embarks on a hilarious killing spree, inflicting death on only those they feel worthy, new life is breathed into their marriage as well as their individual lives. For the first time, their lives are exciting, vibrant, and even sexy. Things have never been better. That is, until Brian has a "burning bush" epiphany.
Brian shares his epiphany with Tanya. It's time to stop the murders. Tanya, who by now has developed a serious blood lust, reluctantly agrees to stop. As Brian begins his new life as a "holy roller," Tanya secretly makes headlines as a serial killer.
Brian and Tanya find themselves drifting vastly apart. Their love for one another is finally put to the ultimate test when their worlds collide in an unforgettable showdown.
After REDRUM, Jones will star along with Queen Latifah, Terrence Howard, Gabrielle Union, Rachel True, Faizon Love, Charlie Murphy, Katt Williams, and Morris Chestnut in "Perfect Christmas". Welcome to the Big Leagues!

This is a totally stupid movie and moreover morose, immoral, and ill-advised! With black on black crime as it is in this day and time 'MURDER' should not be made light of or done up for entertainment especially by our people! Our kids are ever tilting over the edge anyway and movie projects like this aren't helping along with this 'hood' movies and gangsta' rap that glorify violence against one another! I pray that this project is scrapped and Jill M. Jones finds another project by which to make her breakout.

To Daniel Asamota: Why does eveything have to be so political. Why can't people just go to the movies and laugh instead of turning everything into an "issue" The movie seems funny, and I'd like to go see it.
I kind of understand what you're saying about the media having an influence on the children but thier parents should be more of an influence.

This sounds hilarious! You have to be attracted to these sort of comedies to appreciate it though. Doesn't anyone remember 'Serial Mom'? The mother, though a very good mom, would ultimately kill those in the community who didn't do their part in maintaining the neighborhood...for example, she attacked a woman who didn't recycle w/a turkey bone. The humor is a little warped, I guess, but there will be some, like myself, who will find these type of films very funny. I'm looking forward to seeing Ms. Jones on the big screen...she's an excellent artist and I know she'll do wonderfully!

I hope it's a great movie. It sounds so very good. I pray there is not any cussing! I want to see movioes with black people but in the past there is almost always a lot of profanity. I hate that!

Redrum sounds funny, and the cast is top notch. It also sounds like an Afro American version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. This Christmas also sounds like a good one. I hope Jill continues to make good choices post Girlfriends. I would hate for her to become the subject of one of those What Ever Happened To.... types of shows?

Ummm...dave, you're praying there's no cursing, but the movie is about murder. So you'll watch murders happen as long as they don't curse while doing it? Sorry, but that doesn't compute for me.
As far as the movie goes, I don't think I'll make any attempts to see it. The story line seems like garbage to me. The only thing that excites this couple is murder/taking lives? Seems as horrible as "Serial Mom." Sorry Robbie Rob, but that movie was garbage in my opinion...I didn't even make it half way through that flick.

I am so glad for Jill Marie. I love the sound of redrum and hope it is a success. I also like the sound of "Perfect Christmas", all the cast is top notch. We need more black films and I agree with Robbie, Serial MoM was funny and no one made a big deal about how she went around the neighborhood killing people.

Jill Marie Jones, pls choose your roles carefully. Your are in command of your career. Take meaningful roles and keep your integrity to the community you are modeling for, regardless, to what Hollywood thinks will sell. You have a predestined path and you hold the power to it. Be sure to line up with that purpose. Blessings
