While CW's Girlfriends lives on to see an 8th season next year, one of its former stars is quietly racking up on her new venture. Jill Maries Jones, who played Toni Childs and left the show in 2005, hasn't been seen publicly elsewhere but on red carpet appearances, has been working to make a name for herself in the film world. She's got 3 films in the works that should get the attention of many producers looking to cast a good actress. Plus, we need more sistas on the big screen!
First up is "Universal Remote", which will open up the 8th Annual Hollywood Black Film Festival in LA on June 5th. Jones has a supporting role in that film, but she gets a leading status in her next film, the romantic comedy REDRUM. Directed by Carl Seaton, Jones and Kenny Young are the main players in the film. Also feature are Jenifer Lewis, Chris Spencer, Danny Woodburn, Terri Vaughn, Rodney Perry, Joe Torry, and Reginald Ballard.

As the story goes, Brian and Tanya Diggs have always been a timid, law abiding, and somewhat nerdy couple. They've yearned their entire lives to just cut loose and have fun, but they don't know how. They've tried everything, even therapy, and nothing seems to work. They seemed destined to live the rest of their lives in boredom and monotony.
However, late one night Brian finds himself in a challenging confrontation that causes him to finally snap, resulting in him killing someone. Brian confides in Tanya about his murderous deed. Not only has he committed murder, but surprisingly, Brian realized that he truly enjoyed it. His next attempt at murder goes awry, causing Tanya to get involved. She, too, realizes that she enjoys murder. Brian and Tanya have finally found something that gives them the thrill they've been seeking their entire lives... murder!
As the couple embarks on a hilarious killing spree, inflicting death on only those they feel worthy, new life is breathed into their marriage as well as their individual lives. For the first time, their lives are exciting, vibrant, and even sexy. Things have never been better. That is, until Brian has a "burning bush" epiphany.
Brian shares his epiphany with Tanya. It's time to stop the murders. Tanya, who by now has developed a serious blood lust, reluctantly agrees to stop. As Brian begins his new life as a "holy roller," Tanya secretly makes headlines as a serial killer.
Brian and Tanya find themselves drifting vastly apart. Their love for one another is finally put to the ultimate test when their worlds collide in an unforgettable showdown.
After REDRUM, Jones will star along with Queen Latifah, Terrence Howard, Gabrielle Union, Rachel True, Faizon Love, Charlie Murphy, Katt Williams, and Morris Chestnut in "Perfect Christmas". Welcome to the Big Leagues!

I hear all your comments, some I can agree with and some I cannot. However, I am glad Ms. Jones is doing more acting after Girlfriends even if the movies turns out to be a "B" movie. The movie sounds corny but I may check it out because I want to be supportive. Atleast, she is getting some exposure.
Peace

Why every time there is an African America movie we as African America's do not support them or always have something negative to say. But, we are the main ones moaning and groaning about what the white man is doing etc. We are doing it to ourselves!!! Putting our own people down.I am going to support this movie because it's a young, black sister that is trying to move up in life. I bet you went to see Mr. & Mrs. Smith and support that movie, were as it's the same kind of story line as Redrum. To Daniel: I am a young, black female and I know right from wrong. If I do something wrong I know I would have to suffer the consequences. As it was previously said, it's not solely about the influence of movies and/or media, it's the parents influence that should play a bigger part.

The premise of this movie sounds good, but it doesn't seem like it will be funny. And who said the cast is top-notch? It looks like a straight to video type movie with a low budget. She should have stayed on 'Girlfriends.' Or at least been in a Tyler Perry movie. LOL

Jill you were great on girlfriends, but this movie sounds "so NOT like you"...I can't find anything hilarious or wonderful about a couple, black or white for that matter, discovering that they love killing another human being...I simply can't find the humor in this. I'll pass on this one, look forward to your next movie.

STOP IT PEOPLE!!! BLACK PEOPLE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER MURDER TYPE MOVIE. NO MATTER HOW YOU SPIN IT. ITS STILL WHAT IT IS A MOVIE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE KILLING OTHER BLACK PEOPLE. WE DO NOT NEED THAT IMAGE ON THE BIG SCREEN. NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES WHITE FOLKS HAVE DONE IT .i.e MR AND MRS SMITH. IT'S STILL NOT A GOOD BLACK IMAGE TO PUT OUT THERE FOR CHILDREN AND YES WHITE FOLKS AS WELL. NOBODY IS HATIN' OR WISHING JILL BAD VIBES. SHE IS A ROLE MODEL AND BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMAN WITH A BIG FOLLOWING SHE NEED TO PICK BETTER ROLES FOR HERSELF AND FOR HER BLACK IMAGE TO INSPIRE.

UNBELIEVABLE! A movie about bringing your marriage to life by killing people. The way I see it she should have stayed with Girlfriends if her choice of roles was one like this. And by the way your article mentions that she hasn't been seen since her departure from girlfriends...PLS quit acting like you didn't see her in the alcohol commercial!!!Yes its ok to laugh and enjoy a good comedy but I am so tired of our community taking lightly what we expose our youth to and when you see them on the news killing and destroying you sit dumbfounded wondering why...Where is our accountability! There is NOTHING funny about murdering people! NOTHING... Peace Out!

I agree with Daniel Asamota, this is a stupid movie it seems like it wants to be the black Smith vs. Smith movie. With black on black crime very high in my home town of Newark, NJ, Camden, NJ and Philly, I don't believe we need another movie that makes light of killing another brother or sister. What kinda message is being sent that tells people it's ok to kill for fun? I have about 40 years of movie watching under my belt and I believe that movies still need a lot more chocolate actor's and actresses to play out of the box roles, however, this comedy role is more like art imitating life, dont we already have people killing people for kicks? I dont think mothers burying their sons or daughters find that funny. It's a shame that the only way for brothers or sisters to get movie roles is by continuing to play a white man's sex toy or feeding into the way other races see us. Movies are a way to escape certain realities of our lives, if I wanted to see people killing people for fun I could follow real life gang members around; I dont need to pay to see what I can see for free by driving thru the wrong neighborhood.
