While there are a lack of Black actresses in the business, the number of Black writers, especially females, who get work is almost non-existent. Unless they are directing their own screenplay like Spike Lee, John Singleton, and a few others have done, there aren't that many screenwriters that just gets to write and received recognition. Let's see, Suzanne de Passe was nominated for her work on 1972's Lady Sings The Blues, Tina Andrews wrote Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Kriss Turner was the writer of Something New. There are more than just these three, but these are the few that come to mind as of now.
It's about time that someone recognized the talent of the Akils. If the two of them can carve out successful TV projects thus far, they should be able to replicate the same standard on the big screen.

MalibuDarkie... it is because
you put your personal business advertisement on a blog, that has
nothing to do with the price of tea in china, that I will NEVER visit
that link, not even out of curiosity. Because if you are that
unprofessional, that you have to use someone else's platform for
personal gain, I would HATE to be one of your customers.

I personally don't like girlfriends because they call it others female dogs all the time.
Why does black people feel they can't talk intelligently and be recognized; other than that I could handle the show.
The media looks down on blacks because we let our own image be tainted.
They(girlfriends) may look good but looks aren't everything in life, what about respecting yourself?
These women call each other out their names like it's nothing...that just isn't justifiable!

I hope it isnt anything that will make black or black men feel bad about themselves-we all know with that promtion in Hollywood comes the "sell out" factor. Keep it real and remember it is blacks who got you to where your at-if it wouldnt be for balcks supporting your show and making a fuss about how bad blacks are being misrepresented in Hollywood-you would have never gotten any promotion. Keep that it mind-and all the best!

I really love your show girlfriends, in fact I think it's the best show on tv. I shop @ a supermarket and theres a girl there who is identical to Jill Jones(Toni Childs) same lips, nose, eyes and her her natrually long. Customers ask her for her autograph everyday, and she has to explain that she is not Toni Childs. You should see her. I think she is in denial.
