With the summer season just about wrapped, the Fall will offer lots of quality and worth-seeing films. Here's the first pic of Denzel Washington in 'The Great Debaters', a film in which he directed and being co-produced by Oprah Winfrey.
Set against the backdrop of the Jim Crow South and inspired by a true story, "The Great Debaters" chronicles the journey of a brilliant but volatile coach (Denzel Washington) who uses the power of words to shape a group of underdog students from a small, modest black college in East Texas into an elite debate team while challenging the social mores of the time, culminating with a groundbreaking invitation to debate Harvard's championship team.
Cast includes Denzel Washington, Denzel Whitaker, Forest Whitaker, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Nate Parker.
This is Washington's second directorial film since he did 'Antwone Fisher' with Derek Luke.
The Weinstein Co. will release 'The Great Debaters' on Dec.25, 2007.

I look forward to seeing any film starring Denzel Washington. He is not only a great actor, he a wonderful husband, father and human being. It's good that there are genuine stars that we never read negative publicity about. That's refreshing in this era. I respect him in the same way I respect paul Newman and Sidney Poitier. Both are great family men.

I would like to first say please support this film. I had the experience to be in this film. Watching Denzel Washington produce and also played a very important role in this film was fantastic. I must say I'm very impress. Call me and I will be there. Also thanks Christopher Gray for everything your the best.

Look for Sharon Jones ( DAPTONE RECORDS) in this film! Sharon was head hunted during SXSW earlier this year, and word is - beat out Beyonce for the juke joint singer. Mr Washington fell head over for the voice and energy of Ms Jones and reportedly even had the title song (score) re arranged to include her voice.

I am responding to a comment that was made by dionice. First of all the bible says that people parish because of lack of knowledge. This movie is to give people knowlege and history for all people. People want to know that in 1935 there was a debate team that was #1, and just so happened to be black. Is that a bad thing. No, it's educating not only our black kids but our white kids to. It's letting them know that you can do whatever you put your mind to, just believe in yourself. I am not only a believer in this movie, but I am also in this movie. Anyone who says that whites won't support this movie is fooling themselves. I believe that we are all going to support each other in love and heal from the past. Maybe the WHITE DIRECTOR, ASSISTANT DIRECTORS(WHITE)and many other whites who worked in and behind the scenes and depend on people of all COLORS to support their work will be the first to buy tickets!!!!!
