Everyone goes through ups and downs in the business. It's just a matter of time when the depression turns to the opposite and the situation grows rosy again. Jennifer Lopez recently had her last film, 'El Cantante', released in limited theaters and only grossed a little over $7 million. Now, from what I gathered, her latest film, 'Bordertown', will ONLY open up in theaters in El Paso, Texas this week. WOW! How low is low? There was a time when a J-Lo grabbed some sort of attention and had her films released in over 2000 theaters. This film didn't have any buzz going for it. The cast also includes Antonio Banderas, Martin Sheen, Sonia Braga, Maya Zapata.
Based on true events, "Bordertown" is the story of one woman's passionate struggle for justice in a town gripped by fear. Lauren (Jennifer Lopez), an impassioned American reporter for the Chicago Sentinel heads to Juarez, a Mexican bordertown, in order to investigate a series of mysterious slayings involving young factory women from all over Mexico. As she discovers hundreds of victims, she gains the trust of local factory workers but falls into danger.
In a few weeks from now, Lopez will have another film come out. 'Feel The Noise', which stars Omarion, is a film in which she co-produced.

Yess! Go J-Lo, I'm happy to see you independent and married to your best friend. I'm so proud of you, and your heritage Puerto Rican.
Boricua!

I applaude J-Lo presenting this film. The cast is an excellent one, filled with highly talented, intelligent actors like Martin Sheen, Sonia Braga who make films of substance, even though J-lo isn't the greatest actor. Art in the US generally lulls to sleep or makes us duller. It is hard to develop projects that tell the truth. The reality of the dead maquilladoras on the US-Mexico border is the story of women who are abused/worked/discarded in US culture. They are expendable just as black working people...Remember the Atlanta child killings???? It had to have been more than one crazed Black man, but was it even worth it to the powers that be to investigate??
If we agitate about this film, perhaps we can shake it loose and have it be shown. We have the right to see some truth presented on the silver screen...
