Idris Elba May Get Lead Role In 'The Human Contract'

Folks are always wondering who will follow Denzel Washington and be the leading man for years to come. Not to worry fans, Denzel isn't going anywhere, but there really hasn't been that much competition when it comes to getting the same scripts Denzel gets. Many have tried and have had leading roles in films, but to stay atop and get the same quality of films is always a challenge. I think Idris Elba can step up to the plate and get hits that we and producers want to see. So far this year, Elba's been in Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls, 'The Reaping', '28 Weeks Late',and upcoming roles in 'American Gangster' and 'This Christmas'.

On top of the films just mentioned, he's slated to star in a slew of films next year including 'The No.1 Detective Agency' with Jill Scott, and most recently he said to me, while doing interviews for 'This Christmas', that he's in negotiations to star as the lead in Jada Pinkett Smith's directorial and screenwriting debut film, 'The Human Contract'.

Within the film, Julian Wright (Elba) is a charming and mega-successful businessman who hides a secret from the rest of the world which tears his soul apart every day. With his personal life in shambles, Julian will find himself willing to travel down the rabbit hole, as it were, when he meets Michael Reed, a gorgeous stranger who entices Julian to forget his rigid corporate world and try a more bohemian lifestyle, a decision that will not only affect his own life but those of his boss and co-workers, as well as inspire his half-sister Rita to re-examine her life with her abusive husband.

Will Smith and his producing partner James Lassiter will produce through their Overbrook Entertainment.Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum & Morris.

If Elba gets the part and the film is successful critically and finally, Elba's future as a leading man is a given.
