Having just won an Independent Spirit Award for his supporting role in 'Talk To Me', Chiwetel Ejiofor's next film will have him in a leading role as he stars in David Mamet's Redbelt.
Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is the chief instructor at the Southside Jiu-Jitsu Academy. Although a talented fighter, he refuses to compete in professional bouts: "Competition weakens the fighter." Instead he trains dedicated students in the art of self-defense: bodyguards, cops, soliders. At his brother-in-law's club one evening, Mike saves a famous action star, Chet Frank, (Tim Allen) from a severe beating. His defense of Frank leads to a job in the film industry, but other events conspire to force Mike to participate in a prize fight. An American samurai film set in the world of mixed martial arts, David Mamet's "Redbelt" is a story about the limits of a single man's integrity.
Opening up on April 25, the film also features Alice Braga, Tim Allen, Emily Mortimer, Rodrigo Santoro, Rebecca Pidgeon, and Randy Couture.

That's my man's and'em. He's definately making waves in movie land. I liked the martial-arts skills he showed the world in "Serenity." He's a beast with a samuri sword.

This will be a good movie, possibly a great movie. Chiwetel is an excellent actor, and he is backed by an excellent cast. This will be his "breakout" movie. Let's face it, the brotha got mad skillz and now we're going to see them. As for you Charles 2, take that lame azz crap you talkin' back from whence it came....Up you're behind fool. Furthermore, lay off the haterade son. That stuff will kill you.

Since we are on the subject of Chitewel Ejiofor, I tried to submit my comment about the Best Black Films of all time at AOL Black Voices but couldn't for some reason. Conspicuously missing from the 50 Best Black Films of All Time is "Talk To Me" starring Ejiofor, Don Cheadle, and Taraji P. Henson. Everything about the film was extraordinary. This film was overlooked by the mainstream award shows like the Golden Globes and Oscars. At least the Independent Spirit Awards had some sense. But AOL Black Voices also sidestepped recognizing this great film."American Gangster" and "The Great Debaters" made the cut which were released after Talk to me so one can't say it was too new a film. Shame on Black Voices. This movie is among the best of the best. The fact that it was not shown in wide released and dissed by the important award
shows AND Black Voices does not alter that fact.

This brother brings his A game, all the time. Very versatile actor who's highly respected by his peers. Like Don Cheadle, you can't ignore his skillz forever.
