If all goes well, 'Cadillac Records' is shaping up to be the next big musical that will bring folks back to the past as some of the best musicians you probably haven't heard of, aside from a few, are being played on the big screen.
With Jeffrey Wright set to play Muddy Waters, Gabrielle Union has been recently cast to play his girlfriend-then wife Geneva Wade.
The story is about Leonard Chess, the legendary founder of the South Side Chicago blues label Chess Records. The period piece follows the rise and fall of Chess Records, which launched the careers of such R&B greats as Muddy Waters, Etta James and Chuck Berry. Chess, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, scoured the South, checking out the various blues scenes and selling records from the back of his Cadillac.
According to the book 'Can't Be Satisfied: The Life and Times of Muddy Waters' by Robert Gordon, Geneva Wade was Muddy Waters' girlfriend in the late 1940s. She would later become Mrs. Muddy Waters, Geneva Morganfield. Muddy's real name was McKinley Morganfield. Her kids through another relationship were raised by her and Muddy. The song 'Little Geneva' was based on her. The book states that Muddy was quoted as saying 'When I met her, even though I was a recording success, there were still people who scorned my music. Geneva encouraged me to ignore them and fight for what I wanted to accomplish. I'll never be able to put words the way I feel about her.'

Directed by Darnell Martin, the film also stars Adrian Brody as Leonard Chess, Cedric the Entertainer as Willie Dixon, Beyonce Knowles as Etta James, Eamonn Walker as Howlin' Wolf, Columbus Short as Little Walter and Mos Def confirmed as Chuck Berry.
Currently filming in New Jersey, Sony BMG will release 'Cadillac Records' in 2009.

You know I said the same thing about Beyonce playing Etta James, my girl had a big gravely voice and I can't see her playing Etta. I don't know, maybe she knows how to change the sound of her voice. I like Ms. B but I don't know about that. I hope she doesn't make a fool of herself because a lot of people knows what Etta sounded like. But if she can do it good luck

I am looking forward to seeing 'Cadillac Records', because I am so tired of 90% of the Black movies that have been released in the last few months. I am sorry, but I am so tired of Tyler Perry that I could spit. I thought 'Why Did I Get Married' was alright, but all of the rest of those dumbed-down movies have got to go. After seeing 'Meet the Browns,' I refuse to see another Tyler Perry movie!

I don't mean no harm to other peoples opinion but leave Beyonce alone. She is not going around just taking movie jobs because it don't happen like that usually you have to audition for movie roles. Evens if the casting crew have a person in mind to play a role they have to have a screen play. So the crew must have thought choosing Beyonce will be a good idea so whats the big deal. Now I am Beyonce #1 diehard fan and i have to say that her acting skills hae improved from her first movie to Dreamgirls, just give her a shot. People love hating on her why, because she came into this business to become successful well dau. Successful people you see all the times wethers it's in the news, promoting cds or movies and right now her name is at the top or near the top of hollywood elite people so you are going to see alot of her.

Everyone knows that most people do not have to audition if they are GIVEN the script before hand and asked by the director or producer to play a certain part. They selected Beyonce because she is hot right now. Jill or even Macy would have played the singing part a little better because of their styles. Beyonce was picked to bring the people in to see the movie. especially the Beyonce haters. True her acting has gotten better but this role was meant for someone else. Next Beyonce will be playing Diana Ross!!!! LMAO

well dayday...no one is hating on beyonce...well---i'm not...but,two things kinda blew your comments out the water for me..you readily admit your her #1 diehard fan.which in itself is okay.but it kind of questions your credibility.don't you think ? and, unlike comments #'s 2,3 & 5 you made no mention of etta james.i'm not saying you don't know who the woman is or what she sounds like...but i think that's where the confusion of her role in the picture is being questioned..she does'nt SOUND like her...and barely looks like her..ms. B is probably 4 to 5 inches taller than her (possibly) but i think they can pass her off looks wise.

Yea...I agree with you A. Walker and Latasha...Beyonce as Etta? Dont think its gonna work...dayday, no one hates or is hating on her...its just that when a part is given, the person should be able to portray some of the person they are playing in order to be effective...i.e. Jennifer Hudson as Effie, Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles. They were effective because they actually 'became' those characters--I just dont think she can pull it off...and its not a hate...she is successful...of course...but I have yet to see her really get caught up in a role. She was barely noticeable in Dreamgirls until she was the lead singer. Just my opinion...
