With the Jackie Robinson story going to be film with Robert Redford, Spike Lee will focus on doing another sports film, with this project hopefully a little easier to get off the ground.
Spike Lee is set to shoot a feature-length documentary about Michael Jordan. Helmer told a Cannes crowd that he hopes to bring the basketball legend to the fest with the pic next year.
According to Variety, the NBA is financing the docu, with Lee's 40 Acres & a Mule Filmworks shingle producing.
The Jordan documentary will include extensive unseen footage shot by NBA cameras during the final two years in Jordan's career, the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons. Lee and Jordan previously collaborated on a series of Nike TV commercials.
'Mike wants to come to Cannes, so hopefully we will be here next year,' Lee said.
Lee's upcoming film, 'Miracle at St.Anna' comes out this October.

Oh Please Spike no one cares to spend money on a film on someone whose sneakers cost more than neccesary.Another thing Spike how about making movies that we all care about? This desire of yours to make a movie about yet another basketball bouncing negro, is tired! I don't care how talented a ball player he is, or was this sports shit is tired.Too much is happening in this country and the world.I would not spend a dime on his sports movie when he could be making movies that reflect the times we live in now.

Oh Please another movie about a basketball bouncing negro.Of all the things happening in this country and the world,Spike only sees fit to do a movie about a ball player...BORING! I would have thought that a director would have more imagination and creativity.Look at Michael Moore and his "bowling for columbine".This movie was about something that really matters.Basketball? how common and typical.

I GOT LOVE MIKE & SPIKE, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE FILM. SPIKE & MIKE ARE ICONS BECAUSE OF THEIR PROFESSIONS, AND ALL THIS CRAP ABOUT OVER PRICED SNEAKERS NEED NOT BE REPEATED EVERY TIME MIKE'S NAME COMES UP. IF KIDS WHO HAVE JOBS WANT TO BLOW THEIR LITTLE PAY CHECKS ON SNEAKERS, LET THEM. IF PARENTS WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER WANT TO PURCHASE EXPENSIVE SNEAKERS FOR THEIR CHILDREN,LET THEM. WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER I DIDN'T HAVE A JOB, SO I DIDN'T GET JORDAN'S OR ANYTHING CLOSE, BUT IT DIDN'T PHASE ME. I'M A GROWN ASS MAN NOW WITH A JOB & I STILL DON'T HAVE ANY JORDAN'S & IT STILL DOESN'T PHASE ME. PEOPLE HAVE TO GET THERE PRIORITIES STRAIGHT, WHEN IT COMES TO DAILY LIFE & LIVING & NOT A PAIR OF SNEAKERS. AS FOR THE MOVIE, SPIKE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DIRECT WHATEVER HE CHOOSES, WETHER SOMEONE THINKS IT'S BORING OR NOT. NOT EVERY FILM IS GOING TO HAVE THE DRAMATIC POWER OF OVER COMING RACISM & HAVING A SPORTS STAR TAKE A STAND ON SUCH AN ISSUE. THEY'RE MANY SPORTS STARS WHO DON'T SPEAK OUT, & I DON'T PUT THEM DOWN. WHO SAID MIKE OR ANY OTHER SPORTS HERO WAS A GREAT SPEAKER FOR THE PEOPLE ANYWAY ? IT'S JUST A MOVIE, STOP CRYING !

It's easy for some individuals to throw stones at Mike for what they feel he did not do. But I choose to bestow upon him accolades for what he has accomplished. Coming out of UNC, Mike had the resume to become a perennial All Star and perhaps a Hall of Famer. What he did was surpass all expactions on the court. Some of these critical non-athletes do not know what's required to take yourself to a place mentally where you believe you can be the greatest of all time and then go out there and prove it. You can't measure Mike against the likes of a Muhammed Ali(The Greatest), timing and circumstances of his accent to stardom did not dictate that he become the mouthpiece for the Black Race. For those that argue, I ask you,What issue would you have had him take a stance on? He was a ballplayer and what he accomplished was unparalled. I believe we expect too much of these "role models" and expect them to extend themselves beyond their professions and areas of expertise. Sure, Mike made tons of dough marketing himself. What would you critics prefer that he go the route of his predecessors and be pimped by corporate America. Mike reached his full potentail as a hooper, and subsequently we were blessed to see basketball perfection in motion. Instead of hating, we should stand up, put our hands together and say....Thank You Michael Jeffrey Jordan!

Instead of Spike Lee making movies about athletes, he needs to make a movie about some of the heros that helped to shape the black culture. It's many people in Black history that no one knows anything about.

I don't care what any of you guys say. Michael Jordan is the greatest player ever! That will never change. He very well deserves to have a documentary made after himself.

VERY WELL SAID MR. BUTLER ! MIKE WAS A GREAT B-BALL PLAYER & I MISS THOSE DAYS. FORTUNATELY I RECORDED ALOT OF THOSE PLAYOFF GAMES DURING HIS 2ND RUN WITH THE BULLS. I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT MIKE CHOOSES TO DO WITH HIS MONEY,OR WETHER HE WANTS TO BE A SPOKES PERSON FOR AN ENTIRE RACE. WHY ARE PEOPLE TRYING TO GET INTO MIKE'S POCKETS ANYWAY. MIKE DIDN'T FORCE U TO BUY THOSE SHOES...LOL ! YOU THE MAN MIKE ! DO YOUR THANG SPIKE !

6. Mike was a great player. But off the court he was selfish. He didnt help the black community and he cheated constantly on his wife. His basketball shoes have gotten countless inner city youth murdered or lock up for getting the money anyway they can to get some. He is a selfish rich bastard.

.........Peaches you act as if you know this man intimately. Tell me something, Do you wear brand name clothing? I'm sure you do. It's not the clothes or shoes that got those kids killed. It was the lack of care and compassion for another human life that killed those who was wearing Jordans or any other brand name.
