Why is portraying a lesbian considered being shown in a "bad light"? And no, that is not Amy Winehouse. The song ("Mercy") is by Duffy, a singer from the UK.

I recently saw the 1939 version on TCM and this group has a hard act to follow. It was such a smart movie for 1939...I loved it, not sure about the '2008 version' will keep fingers crossed

To the Latina who is offended about Eva Mendez's character, this is a remake, based on a play that was made into two movies. Eva has the part formerly played by Joan Crawford and Joan Collins respectively and they both played the spritz girl. Just an FYI.

We (African Americans) will stop looking at roles played by actors of the same hertiage when there is an equal distribution of all types of roles avaliable to these actors. If it was not for a Tyler Perry who shows African Americans in a wide humanistic roles America would only know black men as policemen, detectives, comedians, law breakers or athletes. Black women roles range from a booty shaker to ....well, guess that is it. You cannot move forward if you don't acknowledge where you are or where you came from.

I think it sounds great and there's no bad light for Jada playing a lesbian. There's many successful, great, friendly, wonderful black lesbians - we aren't all gang bangers or bank robbers like in Set it Off!
