Despite negative reviews, the appeal of Will Smith was huge enough to draws fans of all ages to see him to take over box office during the fourth of July weekend. 'Hancock' took in a little over $66 million dollars from Friday to Sunday, and has grossed a total of $107 million dollars since its opening in July 2nd.
Playing a flawed superhero is something new for Smith and for those who saw the film, many came out liking the film more than those who wrote about it. With no other new film to compete against him, taking the box office was inevitable. It was just a question of how much the film would do.
It's his eight consecutive #1 film and once again, Smith has proven that Independence Day weekend is his!
With 'Hellboy II' and 'The Dark Knight' coming out very soon, let's see if 'Hancock' has enough legs to stay atop.
Coming in second place with $33.4 million dollars is the Disney/Pixar's animated hit 'WALL•E'. Hailed as one of the best Pixar films, the film has taken in $128 million in less than two weeks at the box office.
Dropping 60% for third place with a $20 million dollars take was the Angelina Jolie-Morgan Freeman film 'Wanted'. So far, the action packed film has grossed a total of $90.8 million dollars.
Landing in fourth and fifth place at the box office were 'Get Smart' and 'Kung Fu Panda' with $11 million dollars and $7.5 million dollars respectively.

Will Smith is just a nice guy and everyone loves him. There is nothing wrong with that. I just enjoy his movies and the fact he is a family man makes you like him even more.

I will never go see another will smith movie. Every movie he played except ALI, he had to be paired up with a white woman or a woman of mixed race. And it's was his choice. He's not a great actor, he's just a white folks Ni%&$#..

Will is being protective of his $$$. I can bet he believes that white movie goers are not interested in seeing him paired with a african american female with dark skin.
I personally believe Will's preference is not a sister with dark-skin. His first wife is a light skinned Latino and Jada (whom I love) has a fair complexion and light eyes. He couldn't even get along with the first sister that played his Aunt. She was dark-skinned. They fought until Will had her replaced with Tim Reid's wife. I apologize I can't think of her name. She is fair-skinned too. Please don't misunderstand me I am happy that Will Smith is a successful black man but his refusal to cast a african american woman alongside him only helps perpetuate the stereotype that our own men don't want a dark-skinned sister. Exceptions are; Denzel Washington and Samuel L. Jackson. Thank you GUYS!
The majority of whites think that most black men want white women or light-skinned sisters. Will, if you dare you could help change that perception by showing the world that "black is indeed beautiful".

What about Enemy of the State, and Nia Long, stop hating and focus on your own relationships.
Will and Jada are pro-human, Jada does so much for African American Women as a role model that can be respected for her work not her image, regardless of yr shade. Do you and be blessed, how can you spread love while hating...While has a production company that makes moves the show a productive, vital, life enhancing image of the black man and woman and I love it, its not hood and ultra stereotypical, my family is many-shaded and we are all one. Have faith and spread love.

I agree with your comment no 8, will is very into yellow. That was really wack when Vivian went from beautiful chocolate, she was stunning, to dumpy and yellow. No offense but it is true. He doesn't ever play opposite a dark sister. Dark in hollywood doesn't really exist and everyone has a weave, note the essence cover on black Hollywood. There is a standard of beauty and the dark sister has never been it. Thank god for brothers like obama and that is very different cause half white brother usually want to make sure their children have wavy hair. A secure brother like obama is not running from their birth roots like brothers like will smith. Kudos to your observation. Didn't see the movie, I grow tired of Green screen actors like Will. He takes himself way too serious, I am legend, the greatist, now a superhero, one trick pony, same same same.snore

Wait, wait... here's a black man who is told that he needs to recast his public image. He's told that people hate him, people are afraid of him and see him as alcoholic, destructive and thoughtless to the rest of society. He has tremendous power at his command, but is seen as lazy, uninvolved, shiftless.
So he claims his true position as hero, but then we learn that what defeats him, what breaks him down is hooking up with a white, blond woman. It robs him of all his power and ability. In fact it brings them both down if they stay together.
Hmmmmm... what was the complaint about Will Smith not aligning himself with light skinned females? I think the message is a little different in this movie.
