Just when it's tough out there for a female to get quality roles, Paula Patton has manage to score not just one, but two good roles this August, The first of them is a role opposite Kevin Costner in 'Swing Vote'.
'Swing Vote', which opens on August 1st, deals with the story of an election set somewhere in the near future where Bud Johnson (Kevin Costner), a lovable loser, who is coasting through a life and has not a political thought in his head, is thrust into an improbable dilemma. In response, he is coaxed on by his 12-year-old daughter Molly (Madeline Carroll) to take more of a serious approach to life. Molly runs the household and sees an opportunity on election day to energize her father. The election is a "dead heat" with the sole deciding ballot in the hands of a mystified Bud, who is being wooed by candidates from both sides.
Patton plays a reporter who tries to use this situation as a vehicle to get out of town for the big leagues
What attracted you to this role?
Paula Patton: I read the script and I laughed out loud. This is a film that I want to be a part of. I just thought that it was so witty and well thought out and heartfelt; and I really liked the character. It was a character that I had not played before but I thought she was really interesting. She's this ambitious girl from a small town and looking for a way out and her ambitions get the best of her. So the question goes – how far is she willing to go to get ahead? Everyone in this film is questioning themselves. They are allowing the media circus to come in and twist their lives around.
Have you been in a position where you had to make a decision to determine the outcome of a situation?
PP: It probably started with what college you wanted to go to, but not as monumental as deciding who will be the next president of the United States.
Did you do any research for the character you played as a reporter?
PP: Absolutely, I always like to do research to the lives that any of the characters that I play and I followed around Antoinette Antonio. She's a journalist newscaster in New Mexico and I got to learn what's it like to be a journalist in a small town.
How was working with Madeline and Kevin (Costner)?
PP: Madeline is the next Jodie Foster. She's a magnificent actress. She can cry on cue. She's smart and funny and everything you want her to be and she's 8 years old. Kevin is just as great and a veteran and I tried to pick up as much as I can from him. He's generous and when you are doing a scene with him, he makes sure you give him your best performance. It was a really wonderful collaborative process. To make people laugh in a comedy is a gift and he made people laugh.

What do you think the message is with this film?
PP: The message is that we have to stop being so apathetic. I know that the world is busy and crazy that we live in. it's hard to care about anything when we are thinking about putting gas in our car and putting food on the table for the kids, but we have to remember to be civic minded. If we don't we are going to be in a situation that we have no control over. I also think we have to be politically active. In the end you have family and you keep your family close, and that is what's it all about.

I agree....Paula is beautiful and Robin loves her! If they are happy its not our business. I agree with the post that speaks of the black out in hollywood of sisters who are darker than a paper bag...it's sad that this crap continues. And, I'm in agreement with the poster who commented that nobody says a thing when a brother is out with everything except a black woman, but as soon as a sister steps out and goes for hers then it's a problem.

I dont know why a lot of brothers and sisters also think that halle berry and paula patterson are beautiful, there is nothing on god green earth as beautiful as a black woman that wear her hair natural and being prideful in herself. Now thats a woman

What's wrong with these bloggers??? Are they trying to take us back 50 years??? We are supposed to be moving forwards, not backwards. One day in the future there will be only one race, a mixture of everything.
Love comes in all colors!!! I see more black men with white women then the oppisite and besides, Paula, Halley even Robin Thicke are bi-racial: they get to choose what ever color they want and be comfortable with it, after all they grew up on both sides. Live and let live, stop the predjudice.

Isnt this the woman who was discovered while prostituting herself in front of a movie lot in Hollywood? Ive heard some horror stories about her! With all the beautiful black actresses out there, why sink to casting hookers?
I dont get it.
She looks nothing like Halle Berry, that comparison is a disgrace! Halle is greatness, this tramp is trash.

BLACK MEN WAKE UP!!!!
If you want something done...do it yourselves!!!
There is a Black film festival...If you want more african americans in movies...write the movie, enter it in a film festival, make some money...and then make more movies!!!
And don't expect Black women to wait while you make up your minds to commit. I'm over 35 and love black men....but I'm still waiting....And since I see so many BLACK men dating white.....why shouldn't I?
You can't have your cake and then get pissed when women go for the white cake too!!!!
Get real.....
If you really loved Black woman: treat them better GET MARRIED raised beautiful black families with respect and honor for the community.
What does it say when a white men appreciate Black women just as well (if not better) then black men?
I've turned down plenty of white men waiting for my black Knight.....I'm tired. And ready to open up. And at this point if you can't respect my opinion...it doesn't really matter becuase having three women at once and wanting to be in a relationship for 4 years plus...isn't respect....
White men get married in two. Hate me if you want to!

to the person that said that Robin Thicke's mother is black...you are wronge she is white. If you are going to say somthing you should check you facts before going on and on about something you don't know about! And most of you people are so ignorant!! Who cares about black and white!! We all need to just get along!!!! People can date who ever the they want to!!! Get a Life and stop worring about others!!!! People that say they are "christians" but think that race should not mix is a bung of bull!!! that is not in the bible if it is your reading the wrong bible! Do really think thats what Jesus teaches? I think not! Remeber there is only on "RACE" the HUMAN RACE!!! We are all the same!! Every single one of us!! We might all look a little different...but we are all God's childern!
