Coming out this week is the controversial film, 'Hounddog', that stars Dakota Fanning, Robin Wright-Penn, Piper Laurie, David Morse, and Jill Scott.
Directed and written by Deborah Kampmeier, 'Hounddog' generated tremendous media interest when a promo reel was shown at the Sundance Film Festival last year. The character played by 12-year-old Dakota Fanning is sexually assaulted in a scene that enraged conservative media pundits, even though the attack is implied and not actually shown. In the story, the troubled girl finds a safe haven in the music and movement of Elvis Presley.

I was worried about the "rape" scene in this movie...I had heard all of the hub-bub and was sure that it was going to be traumatizing. While there was no doubt about what was happening to her in this scene but it was done very tastefully. I can remember when I was a child seeing an episode of The Little House on the Prairie when the young lady was "hurt" and ended up pregnant. The two seemed rather close to me. I loved the movie and what it ultimately had to say. This is one I will add to our library.
