Opening this Friday in limited theaters is 'Battle In Seattle', which was written and directed by Stuart Townsend, and starring a bevy of talent (Woody Harrelson, Ray Liotta, Martin Henderson, Michelle Rodriguez, Rade Sherbedzija, Andre Benjamin, Connie Nielsen, Isaach De Bankole, and Channing Tatum).
In 1999, five days rocked the world as tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Seattle in protest of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Environmentalists, consumer advocates, labor unions, students, anarchists and pacifists all converged, bringing attention to how the WTO's policies were affecting democracy around the world. The upcoming presidential election has now reinvigorated the debate over global trade policy.
Django (Andre Benjamin), Sam (Jennifer Carpenter), Lou (Michelle Rodriguez) and Jay (Martin Henderson) are united in their desire to be heard and to make a difference, for these protesters, this is very personal and the stakes are higher than mere politics. A peaceful demonstration to stop the WTO talks quickly escalates into a full-scale riot and an eventual State of Emergency results. The streets are mayhem, the WTO is paralyzed. Caught in the crossfire are Seattle residents, including its beleaguered mayor (Ray Liotta), a riot cop on the streets (Woody Harrelson) and his pregnant wife (Charlize Theron). The choices they make will change their lives forever and prove, ultimately, that ordinary people can change the world.
When I spoke to Andre Benjamin earlier this year for another film, he had mention that he had a featured role in the film.
Andre Benjamin: I play a protestor named Django and his role is pretty much easy in a group of other protestors. They shut down this convention so that the WTO couldn't happen and it worked and this is based on true events. Even though it's serious, my character tries to keep everything light. Even we were getting arrested and gassed, I'm always making it fun.

Hey! I STILL say "Hey Ya" music and video was the biggest genius tune/video in history.
(The single, not the way too long album).
Then I find out Andre3000 is married to Erika Badu.
I must just like your family!
Best of luck, Andre.

This looks like it could be an amazing movie to watch...I only wish they showed Andre in the clips a little more so I can get a sense of his character.

You know whats really weird. Seeing this trailer I remember this happening. I was a King County Metro Transit Bus Driver on vacation when this took place.. I volunteered too too assist the city in driving the protesters too the holding areas just outside the city in the university districts waterfront. I didn't approve of the demonstrators who were in such a beautiful city destroying all they could too get their revenge on WTO. The demonstrators who were doing a peaceful protest were taken advantage of and hurt because the police couldnt tell good protestor from bad protestor. so all were taken in. I feel bad for them who stood up for equal rights of workers all over the world... i just wish corporate america would listen too the people for a change..
