'Quantum Of Solace' Is Biggest Bond Opener Ever

'Quantum of Solace' grossed about $70 million dollars over the weekend, making it the top film at the box office and the highest grossing James Bond opener ever. It surpassed the $40 million dollars that the previous film, 'Casino Royale' did when the world didn't know who Daniel Craig was, except for those who had seen him in small roles in independent films. Since it's a sequel to the last film, which was well received by critics and audiences, there was a certain eagerness to find out where James Bond would go in his quest for vengeance. At the same time, with no new competition for Bond to go up against, first place was theirs for the taking.

Coming in second place was last week's winner 'Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa' with $36.1 million dollars and a total take of $118 million dollars. Coming in third place was the comedy film, 'Role Models' with $11.7 million dollars and a total of $38 million dollars.

Dropping down to fourth place with $5.8 million dollars was 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year'. With a production cost of $11 million dollar, the Disney film has brought in $84 million dollars thus far. Rounding out the top five was Clint Eastwood's Changeling, which took in $4.2 millon dollars. The Angelina Jolie starrer has made $27 million at the gate.

Sadly, 'Soul Men', with Bernie Mac and Samuel L. Jackson, lost 55% of its audience from last week and made out with a dismal $2.4 million. With a $9 millon gross so far, it's best to say that you will have to catch the film when it comes out on video. Other the hand, the well received, critics favorite 'Slumdog Millionaire, which is directed by 'Trainspotting's Danny Boyle, conjured up $350,000 from just 10 theaters. The film will expand this weekend to more theaters nationwide.
