While speaking at the premiere of his latest film, 'Madea Goes To Jail,' Tyler Perry revealed that the title to Lee Daniels's film has been renamed 'PRECIOUS, Based On the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire.' It was formerly known as 'Push: Based on a Novel by Sapphire.'
Perry and Oprah Winfrey will support Lionsgate's distribution of the movie through their respective motion picture companies: Harpo Films and 34th Street Films. It will be the first film affiliated with Perry's 34th Street banner.
Starring in the film are Mo'Nique, Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz, Mariah Carey, Kimberly Russell and Sherri Shepherd. Newcomer Gabourey Sidibe is playing the starring role.
The film won three awards at this year's Sundance Film Festival, including the grand jury prize and the audience award in the U.S. dramatic competition.
Directed by Daniels, the film tells the redemptive story of Precious Jones, a young girl in Harlem struggling to overcome tremendous obstacles and discover her own voice.
Verbally and sexually abused by her family, her troubles lead to problems in school. Precious has no friends, no money, two kids (from her father), and she's illiterate. After being accepted into an alternative school, one of her teachers (Patton) helps her find new direction in life. Along her journey, she comes across a concerned social worker (Carey) and a nurse (Kravitz) who show her incredible kindness.

I'm so excited about this film. A lot of people are going to have a fit because of the cursing. BUT GUESS WHAT? This is real LIFE! Teens go through this same kind of abuse in their homes. And for those people will *sensitive ears* who only want to hear with their itching ears want to hear, are in for a REAL AWAKING!!!
This movie deals with real issues. I have a youth group in my home and I know this to be REAL!!!

I can not wait to see Madea goes to prison. I
would love to be in a movie with Tyler Perry,
wearing my big hats. I'm a comedienne, and presently writing a play. When you wtch his movies
you have no time to think about your problems.
Laughing is the best medcine. Tyler one of your
movies should be Madea goes to college and Madea
goes to med school.

WOW! This is going to be a powerful film. We often sugarcoat life, but many people are born and raised up in situations that are out of their control. This can lead to all kinds of negative behavior. And sad to say, lead a person into feeling unloved and unwanted.

I was introduced to the novel "Push" a number of years ago when I began teaching HS English. I read many book reports about the book, buy never read i until this school year. "WOW" is all I can say. I was so moved by the story and am thrilled that it is becoming a film. Too bad I will not be able to take the kids to see it.

After watching the trailer on the Oprah Winfrey show, I was clapping with jaw dropped! This movie is going to be phenomenal. Great job! I mean if the trailer was off the hook like this, I can only imagine what the entire film will be like. Mo'Nique, like you've never seen her before. She's an actress, period. Newcomer, Gabourey Sidibe...words can't express how in a 3 minute trailer I was tearing up! I cannot wait until this movie comes to theatres.

this is obviously going to be a very difficult movie to watch for me, cause it brings back a wave of pain. i have never been sexually abused, but ive been physically and verbally abused in that nature to where i felt worthless of myself. but this is going to be a huge stepping stone for hollywood, cause now, its nothing but a cesspool of corny horror movies, failed cataclysm movies,(the day the earth stood still,etc..) horrible spoofs, and superhero crap....i can tell this is a real movie. i almost choked up on just the preview....if none of these talented actors(especially monique) win an oscar or academy award, im giving up on hollywood forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
