Premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival last night was Sanaa Lathan's latest film, 'Wonderful World,' in which she is romantically paired with Matthew Broderick.
Ben Singer (Broderick) is a failed children's folk singer, a career proofreader, a compulsive marijuana smoker and a less-than-extraordinary weekend dad. He's also the most negative man alive. Floundering in all aspects of his life, Ben's only comfort comes from regular chess games and friendly debates on game theory with his Senegalese roommate, Ibu ('The Wire's' Michael K. Williams).
When Ibu is suddenly struck ill, and an insensitive municipal employee exacerbates the emergency situation, Ben's pessimistic worldview seems unequivocally confirmed. His only recourse is to pour his energies into a frivolous lawsuit against the city for depraved indifference. He is also forced to host Ibu's sister, Khadi (Lathan). What starts as an awkward living arrangement soon turns into something more, and Ben's usual self-destructive nature gives way as he begins to find inspiration in the most unlikely of places.
Written and directed by Josh Goldin, the film also stars Phillip Baker Hall, Jodelle Ferland and Ally Walker.
Lathan also made an appearance at the TFI Awards Ceremony during the Tribeca Film Festival at City Winery last week.

Unlike most of the posters here, I actually SAW this movie at a film festival. What a great movie this is!! Don't get caught up on the interracial aspect. That wasn't even an issue in this movie. It was about how people percieve the world and events. Great performances by Sanaa and by Matthew Broderick. I don't know if there is a market for this film but it is far from being a bomb. It's a well written, well acted movie about people who are realistic and believable. I thought the relationship between the characters transcended sex and dealt with what's really important in life, family and positive thinking. Well done!!

News flash: black people are not a monolith. They live individual lives. Some are well educated some are not, some are actors some are janitors. If Sanna as an individual wants to do a love film with anyone that is her perogative. AND HER CHECK! ok? If Kerry Washington has an attraction to or wants to date white guys, that is her business too. If you don't like IR relationships. . .don't get one. People can cut their eyes and make all the black unity arguments they want. At this day in age with blacks on so many different economic and social stratas, they will meet and find interest and commonality in people across all racial lines. That is a fact,, not an opinion. And what are the nay sayers going to do? I guess they will just have to whine themselves to sleep.

Sanaa Lathan is an actress .She is telling a story .So what if her leading man is white .How does that make her a sell out ? She has shared screen time with alot of black actors (Taye Diggs ,Omar Epps ,Denzel Washington ) Also with white men ( Simon Baker )Its just about that time for us all to stop this race issue.Let it go and just enjoy her movies .
