Walt Disney Animation Studios has sent Cinematical.com the exclusive poster to the musical 'The Princess and the Frog,' an animated comedy set in the great city of New Orleans and starring Tony winner Anika Noni Rose in the title role.
Over the weekend, the trailer went up on Apple.com.
From the creators of 'The Little Mermaid' and 'Aladdin' comes a modern twist on a classic tale, featuring a beautiful girl named Tiana (Rose), a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again and a fateful kiss that leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana.
Among the many princesses in Disney's vault (Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White), this marks the first animated black one.

The film marks the return to hand-drawn animation from the revered team of John Musker and Ron Clements, with music by Oscar-winning composer Randy Newman ('Monsters, Inc.,' 'Cars,' 'Toy Story').
Also starring in the film are John Goodman, Keith David, Jim Cummings and Jenifer Lewis.
'The Princess and the Frog' will open for exclusive engagements in New York and Los Angeles on Nov. 25 and then nationwide on Dec. 11.

I don't see anything wrong with a black princess, or the fact that the prince isn't black. I'm white and I have a black gf. People are so close minded when it comes to race, when they were talking about Obama becoming president, it wasn't the issues that many people were against, it was the fact that he wasn't white. I think the movie might actually help against racism if people would open their ears and their eyes, race is only an issue because people make it one. I mean damn people, the movie isn't even out yet and your already getting angry with it. Its the exact same thing with racism, they hate someone without even knowing them, then they refuse to even try to. watch it, then complain about it.

I'm upset over the poster advertisement. Disney has unlimited funds when it comes to adertisement and they display an ad of the princess in a "shaded" fashion...? Our daughter grew up on all things Disney and they always display their product in a vibrant, colorful manner. We all know how advertising works. Nevertheless, I will support the movie when it comes out, but I am very dissapointed in Disney.

The diversity of these comments alone shows that Disney would not have been able to please all. Some of you love the name Maddy, others were offended. Some liked the idea of a biracial couple, others wanted a black prince...Is it possible to satisfy everyone?...No. We've waited decades for this and expect it to perfect. What does that mean? It's subjective.
I think we all can agree that at least Disney is finally getting the message that there is an audience out there who would appreciate this film. Let's just enjoy the fact that our daughters will have the fantasy that we didn't get to have; that's the major objective.

Teresa, I'm a very passionate person, and whenever I'm excited or even stressed, I DO swear (I was TRYING to think of an elaborate, witty way of saying that. lol).
I'm NOT the type of guy who feels as though he needs to curse and curse and curse in order to carry a conversation, and as you can tell by my grammer and punctuation, I know my way around the English language. But every now and then a person (NOT just men) has GOT to cut lose a little. Can you imagine a world where everyone HAD to censor what was in their hearts (I suppose there's a lot of good AND bad to that. lol)?
I'm going through the difficult process of trying to embrace who I am, and as an ever-expanding work-in-progress, I embrace the articulate, well-spoken AND the foul-mouthed, rebellious me.
But in saying all of this, I WILL take your comment into consideration :)

And BTW, that Prince does NOT look or sound very "white" to me. He appears to be Latino, which would be even BETTER.

I won't be going to see this. It's absolutely appalling that they did not give the main character a black prince. What the movie in effect says is "it's okay for the villain in the movie to be black, but it's not okay for her prince to be black". Absolute BS. I will not be going to see this!
