What does it mean when the director of a money-making franchise like 'Fantastic Four' gets booted? Ask 20th Century Fox, which is launching a whole new set of films about the popular superhero characters without Tim Story, the original director.
While the first two films, 2005's 'Fantastic Four' and 2007's sequel 'Rise of the Silver Surfer' were poorly criticized, they were still profitable for the studio, grossing $330 million and $289 million, respectively, worldwide.
Variety states that Akiva Goldsman has been hired to oversee the reboot as producer. Michael Green, co-executive producer of TV's 'Heroes' and co-writer of 'Green Lantern,' will write the script for the new 'Fantastic Four' film.
No word on whether Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis, who starred as the FF, will be brought back. Chances are that a new cast will be hired.
In the meantime, Story is still trying to get his last film, 'Hurricane Season,' which was shot nearly two years ago, into theaters. That film stars Forest Whitaker, Isaiah Washington, Taraji P. Henson, Courtney B. Vance, Bow Wow and Lil' Wayne.
20th Century Fox controls the 'Fantastic Four' movie franchise in perpetuity -- as long as it continues making the films. Marvel is a producer and a financial participant through a licensing agreement.

no offense to tim but the fantastic four movies suck from a fans standpoint. the same thing was done with the hulk when people were disappointed by ang lee's moody portrayal of the greenskin giant. one big mistake about story's ff JESSICA ALBA. she can't act her way out of a paper bag i always thought Scarlet Johannson should have been cast. Reed Richards character as a weak willed milksop was another mistake, other than that the human torch was the most interesting character in the franchise.
