While 'Disney's A Christmas Carol' landed atop the box office with a little over $31 million, the buzz around town was how extremely well 'Precious' did in just the smallest amount of theaters.
According to box office reports, the film, with marketing help from executive producers Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, took in a staggering $1.8 million from 18 theaters, averaging a robust $100,000 per theaters. Most, if not all, shows were sold out.
At the same time, while the numbers are impressive, the scarce distribution has angered many who were looking forward to seeing the film after it was heavily marketed on TV and radio. Many from the cast are doing rounds of interviews, including Mo'Nique, and yet the film hasn't played in most of the country.
According to one patient moviegoer, "I am very disappointed also because the movie is not playing in my area. I don't understand why. I called my local theater and they said they might order it after they see how well it does at other theaters."
Lionsgate plans to roll out the film nationwide on Nov.20.
Meanwhile, 'Michael Jackson's This Is It,' which was supposed to be in theaters for only two weeks until Sony Pictures decided to have the run continue, grossed over $14 million this past weekend and has made a total of $57.9M after 12 days in 3,481 theaters. Overall, the documentary has grossed $185 million worldwide.

Precious is definitely Oscar Bound. It does bring up and interesting question. Can we just do movies with out all the drama/violence & sex abuse? Or is it the only way we can get Oscars?
Here is a review of Precious at AFI Film Festival along with some of the Stars that attended

I was so disappointed to find out on Nov.6,2009 that the movie I had been waiting for was not showing in ANY AREA near me. I fill so miss led by the advertisment. Also sadden that we still have not learned to embrace the TRUTH of what goes on all over the world everyday in every race.I would luv to know: WHY WAS THIS PARTICULAR MOVIE LIMITED? When it was obviously a win for everyone to see.
