Not that long ago, numerous media outlets were writing about 'Precious' star Mo'Nique and her lack of promotion for the award-winning film.
Some reports have indicated that the former star of 'The Parkers' was making high demands -- and with no appearances at the major film festivals (Cannes, Toronto, New York), people were inclined to believe what they read.
Now that the film is out and opening up in more theaters, the Oscar buzz has started again, and the comedienne -- who hosts her own late night talk show on BET -- is on the campaign trail.
The 'Phat Girlz' star's reps denied Black Voices an opportunity to interview her, but in speaking with Moviefone's Kevin Polowy, Mo'Nique is speaking about the film and addressing the politics surrounding her previous silence.
"Baby, people gonna talk," the Baltimore native said. "It comes with the territory."
"But didn't they talk about Jesus? Then they killed him," she continued. "So, what makes me think I'm so special that they're not gonna talk about me?"
More of the interview here.

I saw the movie and Monique does not deserve the Oscar Nod,the young lady who plays Precious deserves it.Monique would not promote the film stating she needed to be paid for her appearances.Later she finds out from guests who had been nominated for Oscars how it really works and now shw wants to speak out and have the cast on her show. They let her know it's not the fans but the oscar committee who chooses and how she have to impress them for months now all of a sudden she wants to do what she should have been doing all along. My hope is she learns from this and maybe the swollen head will come down.By the way,I hope she reads this or smeone in her camp read this and pass it on to her.If so please tell her to start acting a little more professional on her show and not so GETTO.(She's losing a lot of her fans)

I enjoy listening and watching MO, however she has not delivered an Oscar nod, for her work in this film, it appears as if she is doing a scene from her stand routine. Keep going "MO", as I know you will. It's not for you at this time.
Mo you need a movie that you will be the star.

Monique MUST be nominated for best actress. Her performance is so powerful and complex. It's almost emotionally draining but she gives a degree of restraint to her performance at times, so it's a more credible and multi-layered portrayal.
She's nailed it in this film.Congratulations to her for a tremendous job!

I saw the movie Precious on November 15, 2009, in Houston. I didn't read the book so the entire movie was a unique experience for me. I believe that Mo deserves to be nominated for an Oscar. Her performance in her last scene it the movie blew me away. I cried during that scene and my tears were still flowing as I existed the movie.
I watch Monique's talk show and I really enjoy it. She is being herself and that is a great thing. I loved the fact that she embraces her guest with love and expresses her unconditional support for their lives and their professional projects and/or sucess.

I just have 1 question. If someone from the Mo’nique camp explain why the people in Virginia Beach can not see the movie? The movie has already came out and the Hampton Roads still do not have the pleasure of seeing this film. Can someone please explain.

I'm African American and I am going to pray for all of the people who look up to Mo'Nique as a role model.
