Already set to play a character in Dark Castle's DC Comics adaptation 'The Losers,' British actor Idris Elba has been tapped to join in on another comic book film coming to the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the former star of 'The Wire' will play Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard in 'Thor,' Marvel Studios' film about the Norse god of thunder.
Also starring in the film are Chris Hemsworth, who will play Thor; Tom Hiddleston, who will play Loki; and Natalie Portman, who is the love interest Jane Foster.
Samuel L. Jackson is expected to make a cameo as Nick Frost to tie the film into 'The Avengers,' much like the cameo he made in 'Iron Man.'
Kenneth Branagh is directing the adaptation of the Marvel comic, with shooting scheduled to begin in mid-January in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Paramount Pictures will release the film May 20, 2011.
Elba was seen earlier this year in the Screen Gems suspense thriller 'Obsessed,' opposite Beyonce Knowles and Ali Larter.
He will be seen next in Feb. in Screen Gems' heist thriller 'Taken,' which stars Chris Brown, T.I., Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, Michael Ealy, Hayden Christensen, Zoe Saldana and Jay Hernandez.
Both movies were produced by Will Packer, who also produced 'This Christmas,' which Elba starred in last year.
The British hunk also took on a recurring role on NBC's popular sitcom 'The Office,' earlier this year.
American movie lovers have become avid fans of acclaimed actors such as (l-r) Delroy Lindo, Thandie Newton and Idris Elba. But there's plenty more from where -- Great Britain -- that comes from. Check them out.

OK, I'm a Black guy who grew up with Thor, Marvel etc. And even I didn't see anything wrong with all White NORSE super hero gods. To make Heimdall aka, the "White God" Black is retarded. When they made Nick Fury I was like ehhh... but it wasn't just ANY Black guy it was Sam "Bad Motha" Jackson! This is ridiculous! What's next Captain played by Jet Li? Black Panther played by Keaneu Reeves?

WELL, WELL, WELL, WELL, I THINK IT IS BETTER FOR IDRIS ELBA PERFORM LOKI THAN BEING "THE LOSER" BECAUSE HE IS THE BEST ACTOR.
THE REASON IS WHY I CHOSEN HIM INTO LOKI'S CHARACTISM IS BECAUSE LOKI IS A HELL MAN THAT
IDRIS LOOK ALIKELY OF LOKI IF IT'S POSSIBLE.
HOLLA! BE PLEASE SEND HIM TO CHANGE CHARACTER TO
THE "LOKI", IT'S PERFECTLY ACTING ON MARVEL.
I SUGGESTING YOU GUYS FOR THAT COSTLY HIGH MILLION
ENTRANCE FOR THEIR EXCITING JUST LIKE I AM GOING TO BE EXCITING ABOUT IT TOO!

Nick Fury has been "Black" for several years. Marvel 're-invented' itself back in the 90's.
Tsk, tsk on the author regarding "Nick Frost". LOL!
