The Golden Globes nominations were announced today and, as expected, 'Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire' was among the nominees, but director Lee Daniels and screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher failed to make the cut.Along with a nod for best picture in the drama category, the movie snagged a best supporting actress nomination for Mo'Nique and a best actress nomination for star Gabourey Sidibe.
'Up in the Air' came away with six nods, the most of any film nominated, followed by five for the Rob Marshall-directed musical tour de force 'Nine.'

That's OK if they snubbed "Precious". All this is telling us is that we have to continue to support our movies, music, broadway shows, ect. We must also have more of our own different awards ceremonies. We also need our own type Hall of Fame for our music and movies. I have watched the Color Purple and Beauty Shop so many times. The more I watch them, the better they get. The Color Purple deserves several Academy Awards by now and Beauty Shop deserves some also. So many of our singers from way back, in the day deserves to be in the Hall of Fame or something prestigious institution just like it. When they snub your work, they are trying to make you feel down hearted, so not to continue putting out good works. Forget them and move on with you next project. After all, you did not get into the business to win awards. You wanted to express yourself and make a difference in the world. If awards come, that is terrific, but you keep at it.
Sincerely,
From The Desk Of
The Carolina Bee

Read it again. They didn't snub Preciouis. It got three nominations including Best Picture, actress and supporting actress. They just didn't nominate Daniels for best director.

I think the movie was more about child abuse and that was the main goal. there are alot of children being abused and killed daily and the abusers get barely any time. they get sent to psych wards

I have to agree with David. Precious got more than it deserved.
It broke no new ground, it just furthered more negative stereotypes; without any solutions. We all know, unfortunately, that these horrible things happen to people, but what was the point of filming it?
There was nothing outstanding about the movie, cinematically; it was OK, not great. Just because itis a movie made by Black folks, does not automatically make it a great movie; it takes more than that.

First of all, I thought "Precious" was a great film, and it deserves to get nominated for the Golden Globes. I wonder where all of you were who are complaining about negative images of black folk being depicted in films were, when "Hustle and Flow" was nominated.
And to Kiesha just because it's 2009-10 there are many black teens out there that can't read because of social promotion which is still happening, it's not noticed. You'll be surprised to know how many Precious' there really are, some of them you see everyday and wouldn't even think twice about it.
