The real writter was sapphire anyway not the screenwriter. And what kind of direction do you need when you have scenes in a house,in a make shiff school room, and a trashy social worker office? with that the actors can direct themselves.A nd besides the downsyndrome girl could have directed a lot

It's no insult to Lee Daniels.Precious is a great film but if you look at previous nominees/winners for that category,it's wrong to say that he was overlooked.Just to name a few:
Peter Jackson-Lord of the Rings(Return of the King)
Martin Scorsese-The Departed
Danny Boyle-Slumdog Millionaire
It's a very tough category and you really must be the best to be considered.
We'll see if the Academy voters think differently.

I agree with all of you, the actress in the movie were great, but the "story sucked" I had the same pain in my heart as I did when in saw "The Passion of Christ" It hurt to see what his people did to him and it hurt to see what her people did to her.
However, if you want to see a good movie some one should make a movie out of the book "Prison My Peace My Refuge" It's about a little girl who was born heathy and beleves that she got polio from babies viccin given to her in the 1960's. She over came the polio by the time she was a teenager and was one of the most beauitful girls in town.
However, by the time she was 33 she was in prison for murder. I won't kill it for you but she tells the truth about what goes on behind prison walls that keeps people coming back. And, how to servive on the other side of the wall. This story has never been told it's one the whole family should see. You will love it!

Wow. So many great names not mentioned... but I am glad that Glee is in – FINALLY 30 Rock has been dominating EVERYTHING – it's time for a fresh face. Found this hilarious write up where they explain screenwriting using the movie Dodgeball as an example: http://tictacdo.com/ttd/Write-a-Hollywood-Blockbuster Anyway, congrats to all these amazing talents. This year will definitely be worth watching.

Lee Daniels was overlooked based on two key facts: 1. He took a college student with no acting experience and created a best actress nominee 2. Monique, a comedian, became a monster and is now nominated for best supporting actress. The director is responsible for their development.
To judge his nomination (or lack there of) based on whether you like the film is null and void.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to see this film, therefore I cannot form an opinion. I would like to see opinions regarding at least "2" predominately black movies that came out in the last 5 or even 10 years that people felt was good/excellant/appropriate.

The Director Lee Daniels, was not really over looked. He did a great job, but he could have done and will do better in the future. I enjoyed the movie. As a Black or African American woman, I even saw some of the seens were over or under the top. Not quite awards ready. Example, directing Monique, her seen talking to her daughter's social worker, the direction could have been more intense in a harder and softer way, by facial, eyes, arms and hand expressions. Expressing mental and rational anguish, gripping in her own mind attempting to express explanation regarding her husband and daughter's rape. I could see Monique standing up turning in circles, confused, shaking her head back and forth, with her fist balled up simply whaling out loud in hurt and confusion because of her eliteritcy.

First abruse doesn't have a color second this is for those that can't afford or have the mind set to help themselves or a neighbor who notice some of the same similariatys in another victim this way most people will get involed take notice if their in a postion to stop or help with this and other types of abuse. There are people who's story is like this and worse ( look in mo. the farther and his son having sex with each other children etc. not black either hate has no color it's just hate open your mind and eyes his job was to bring to the screen what was written in the book to the best of her words & understanding but also to keep it short and sweet so the ending etc is were he lost points be blessed and let the artist show you their perspective they don't mind construtive critisims because the more you try the better you get good job to all the ones that go out there and be productive in this society
