Although 'Avatar' will likely rake in the big money this weekend, another film that should get audiences excited is the star-studded musical 'Nine.'
The movie stars Academy Award winners Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, along with Kate Hudson and Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie.
Directed by Rob Marshall ('Chicago'), 'Nine' is a vibrant and provocative film that follows the life of world-famous film director Guido Contini (Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion -- all while balancing the numerous women in his life, including his wife (Cotillard), his mistress (Cruz), his film star muse (Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Dench), a young American fashion journalist (Hudson), the prostitute from his youth (Ferguson) and his mother (Loren).
The original 1982 Broadway production of 'Nine,' which was nominated for 12 Tony Awards and won five, starred Raúl Juliá, with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston. The 2003 Broadway revival of 'Nine' received eight Tony Award nominations and won two, including best revival of a musical.
Quentin Tarantino's latest film, 'Inglourious Basterds,' which stars Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Diane Kruger, Eli Roth, Michael Fassbender, Mike Myers and Rod Taylor, is available on Blu-ray and DVD.
The film, which has received several Golden Globe nods -- including one for Waltz -- is set in the first year of the German occupation of France. Shosanna Dreyfus (Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Col. Hans Landa (Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes, fleeing to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.
Elsewhere in Europe, Lt. Aldo Raine (Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish American soldiers to perform swift, shocking acts of retribution. Later known to their enemy as "the Basterds," the group joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget von Hammersmark (Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of the Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquis, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own.
The documentary 'Agile Mobile Hostile' explores the life of Andre Williams, who has recorded and written hits and worked with legends of the industry, including Berry Gordy, Ike Turner and Stevie Wonder.
He has also struggled with addiction, poverty, homelessness and the legal system. Throughout his 72 years, Williams has never stopped driving his creative visions forward, regardless of cost or consequence. The consequences, it turns out, have been severe, and as his addictive history catches up with him, his decisions become a choice between life and death.
