Although his last film wasn't among the top 20 box-office hits this year, Denzel Washington still landed on the list of top money-making stars in 2009.

The New York native landed 10th on Quigley Publishing Company's 78th annual poll for his earning potential. According to boxofficemojo.com, the Sony Pictures remake of 'The Taking of Pelham 123,' which starred Washington, took in $65.4 million domestically over the summer but had a worldwide gross of over $150 million.

Sandra Bullock also proved to be a big money maker this year after starring in 'The Proposal,' 'All About Steve' and 'The Blind Side.'

The Quigley poll, conducted each year since 1932, is an annual survey of motion picture theater owners and film buyers, who are asked to vote for the 10 stars they believe generated the most box-office revenue during the year. It has been long regarded as one of the most reliable indicators of a star's real box-office draw because the selections are done by people whose livelihood depends on choosing the films that will bring audiences to their theaters.

Also making the list in this order were: Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, George Clooney, Robert Downey, Jr., Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf.

Will Smith was voted the top money-making movie star of 2008, becoming only the second African American actor since Sidney Poitier in 1968 to top the Quigley poll.
