James Cameron's 'Avatar' was the big winner at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards taking home prizes for Best Motion Picture Drama and Best Director.
The film has been atop the box office for five straight weeks, and is the second-highest-grossing film ever with $1.61 billion dollars worldwide. 'Avatar' should overtake the top spot of Cameron's previous blockbuster, 'Titanic,' which grossed $1.84 billion.
In her role as the mom-from-hell in 'Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire,' actress and talk show host MoNique was a double winner this past weekend as she won a Best Supporting Actress award from The Critic Choice Movie Awards, then followed it with another one from Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the Globes.
The Golden Globes are considered a major pre-cursor to the Academy Awards.
In her acceptance, MoNique said: "Everybody kept asking me do I know my speech, and I said, 'No, I don't know what I'm going to say because I don't want people to think I just know I done won something,' so no, I don't know! When I tell you all I am in the midst of my dream and when I look into the eyes of the man I stood next to at 14 years old and I said to him, 'One day we're going to be stars, and he said, 'You first.'" Mo'Nique said. "And we walked this red carpet together tonight. Sidney, I will love you more than you will ever know, baby. I celebrate this award with all the Preciouses, with all the Marys -- I celebrate this award with every person that's ever been touched. It's now time to tell. And it's okay."

When an actor can make you forget that they're usually a funny person, a comedian that cracks you up, often; only to play a role of the person, imo, who is next to God, a mother. And, play it in such a vile way that taps at all of your emotions good, bad, ugly and indifferent - that is great acting and I'm proud of Monique! 'Cause she truly was a bad mutha in Precious! Wow! Congrats!

What has our world come to when Monique wins a golden globe. I don't think she was good. She seemed to be playing herself on a bad day.

This is really sad. I can't believe Monique won. I'm just shaking my head in disbelief. Are you kidding? I can't believe this.
The movie was horrible. Monique was not acting. She was being herself. If she says "baby" one more time I don't know what I might do.
This is so wrong. But see what happens when you are aligned with the right people.

To Mimi and coperkat, I am not hating I am simply stating my opinion. Grow up enough to understand that everybody doesn't think like you. I wouldn't be caught dead making a movie like that. In my opinion it was terrible. If you enjoyed it, good for you. I didn't. I don't think Monique is a great actress. That too is my opinion. Every year we see actors receive awards and we wonder why. It's all politics.

Congratulations to Mo'Nique on her Golden Globe Award, Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award and Critics' Choice Movie Awards this weekend.
Your portrayal of that dastardly mother in “Precious” was non other than Oscar worthy. You deserve every award you win. You go girl!!!
