Now that the Academy Awards are over, Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe will be heading to the small screen as the Brooklyn, New York native is set to star opposite Laura Linney and Oliver Platt in the dark comedy series, 'The Big C' for the Showtime network.
Set in the Connecticut suburbs, the half-hour series stars Linney as Cathy, a repressed suburban wife and mother who reclaims her life after a terminal cancer diagnosis. Platt will play her immature, but well-meaning husband.
Sidibe, who was nominated for her role in Lee Daniels' 'Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire,' will play a smart-alecky student in Cathy's class.

'The Big C,' which will begin shooting 13 episodes in May for a late summer premiere, is created and written by Darlene Hunt, who will serve as executive producer, along with Linney, Neal H. Moritz and Vivian Cannon. It is produced by Original Film in association with Sony Pictures Television. Acclaimed writer/director/producer Bill Condon ('Dreamgirls') directed the pilot.
Sidibe's next film role is a supporting part in the independent film, 'Yelling to the Sky,' which is directed by Victoria Mahoney, and co-stars Zoe Kravitz, Jason Clarke, Antonique Smith, Yolonda Ross, and Shareeka Epps.

Plenty of large men have made it in show business. I agree losing weight is better for her health, but as the present big girl she is today, she will do fine in show biz. She is a very good actress, a happy person and I look forward to seeing her become a great actress.

Either you 2 skinny are 2 fat. That's the media for you. Gabby did a great job in Precious and I think she'll do "Big" thangs" especially if Monique is a friend of hers.

Right now, she's such a novelty, if only because people turn to look twice, as if to verify, "Can anyone really be THAT fat?" But I think that she knows great unhappiness, which is what usually propels poeople into food addiction, drug addiction or alcoholism, and this may be why she was able to bring "Precious" to life so authentically, and with no real acting experience. She drew upon her own painful life and her handicapping overweight. She is morbidly obese and if she doesn't get help, her career will be short lived, not because of shifts in public taste, but because her heart, lungs and other vitals may collapse from the great strain. PLEASE PRAY FOR HER!She is intelligent, talented and sincere, and if she can overcome her life-threatening obesity, what an inspiration ahe could be for so many other fat people, especially children, suffering in obscurity. If Michelle Obama needs a poster child in her campaign against childhood obesity, let "Gaby" reduce, under doctor's care, and step into those much smaller shoes.

No, let's face it, woman. As sincere as your tears may have made you look on Oscar night, if you don't start shedding those pounds and learning a bit more about playing roles that are not carbon copies of what you grew up as in Brooklyn, I'm afraid your Hollywood history is going to be mighty short. I, for instance, will give your upcoming try at TV acting one night. After that, we'll see. But save the moon-size wet laughs and let's see if you know what true acting ability entails.

Gabourey needs to get herself healthy for her health and career opportunities. I have heard her speak a number of times and I am impressed with her intelligence, charm and wit. She was brillant in Precious and she deserves to have a long career. I heard her mother in an interview and you can see where she got her brillance. Gabourey is a natural.

Gabby gave such a convincing performance in her role of "Precious" that some people think she is that,Fat,uneducated, ignorant, hopeless teenager. Her appearance helped her garner the most talked about movie in a long time. If this unknown inexeperienced actress can get an Oscar nomination her first time out,I think she is smart enough to know Hollywood isn't going to be knocking down her door for those Reese Witherspoon roles, she's just basking in the glory right now leave her alone and let her enjoy it. As for God,he loves Gabby no matter what she looks like as well as he loves all his children.

Well.
Here's the truth.
Most people may think it's a good change because most actresses have eating disorders which makes them very skinny. But I think this girl may have eating disorders that have the opposite effect. I know many people are commenting about her weight and how it could provide health problems, and I couldn't agree more. That much extra weight could and probably will hurt her health...
But what about Mary Kate? She had major health issues from her eating disorders. People have failed to mention that extremely lithe people have put themselves at a high risk for health problems as well as obese people have.
It is sad that she is obese, but you should know that she will probably loose weight in the future when she starts noticing health issues. I hope she succeeds as an actress.

whereas I think she did a good job acting as Precious, honestly if she didn't do another movie, I won't miss her. I don't mean to be a mean girl, but I agree with the person that said she needs to lose the weight, it is so unhealthy and would be negligible of her not to. I certainly wouldn't want my young girls to look at her and think allowing yourself to get that big is o.k.
