Reps from VH1 have told Black Voices that Queen Latifah's production company, Flavor Unit Entertainment, will be producing a 'Movie of the Week' for the cable channel called 'Single Ladies,' and starring Lauren London, Lisa Raye, and Stacey Dash.
'Single Ladies' is a comedic drama about a group of female best friends with different philosophies on sex and relationships, set in the world of Atlanta fashion, music, and celebrity. This is a modern, sexy 'Odd Couple' that will constantly test which woman has the right approach to relationships.
The script was written by Stacey Littlejohn, who has worked on various TV shows such as 'All of Us,' 'Cedric the Entertainer Presents,' and 'The Hughleys.' She will also serve as an executive producer.
Shooting will be taped in the Atlanta area.
Flavor Unit has produced a number of movies, including 'The Cookout,' 'Beauty Shop,' 'The Perfect Holiday' and 'Just Wright.'
McCoy, who will play a video vixen, spoke to Vibe.com and stated, "When 'Girlfriends' got off the TV we didn't have anything else to relate to. This would be something else as a series so we can do more and be a little bit more risqué."
Dash, who plays a celebrity stylist experiencing autonomy for the first time, says, "My character is very similar to my own life because I've never been single. Literally, since I've been 17 years old. She's never been married, the character than I'm playing, whereas I've been married three times, so that's the difference. It's a really good script."
According to her rep, London, will play an NBA player's wife.

Here we go again... It's Girlfriends the next episode..All these single women with all these shows...validating that being single is instyle...yet they can't even keep a man....what kind of lesson are we teaching our youths with all this nonsense?...that being divorced and single, collecting ur rich man's paycheck instead of standing on ur two feet and being independent no matter ur circumstances is the way to live a productive life?... No sweetie that's called being a freeloading golddigger (just calling it as I see it)..where are all the shows that potray great and married loving women, who get what being a REAL WOMAN is all about? huh? huh? I mean even if they're not married @least know how to keep a good man...that's why our youths don't get what a meaningful relationship is all about, and won't settle down, or work out that mutual problem between each other...No, instead they see basketball wives living large and getting paid...I'm so sick of this? (And yes, I am a happily married 28yr old black woman..let me tell you, it is alot of work...but so is everything else in life!)

I pretty much agree with you if that's what the movie is going to be about. Did you get a sneak peak at the script? I haven't heard that's what it's about. Although, chances are you're right.
But, since there are so many single women out here (present company included)we need to know of ways to keep our heads up if our beau doesn't propose. And how to not wallow in self pity when a relationship ends. There's marriage counseling for the married; what's wrong with a little singles counseling? We can use some advise too.

Prehaps someone will produce a show which depicts solid married couples but in the meantime... Lets hope that this movie does not focus on being "Gold Diging, Overly Sexed and Calulating" but on being a positive independent single black woman looking for a good man. Right now, we as black women are leaps ahead of our men, especially in the 20 - 30 age group. Our men have a problem with wearing their pants correctly and with having their own, not to say that the young women don't either; however in most cases women do mature much faster than do men.
I am 50 and would hate to be in my 20's or 30's seeking a man. We as a people must produce shows that are positive and uplifting so that our young people understand that there is nothing wrong with working hard and having your own. Stop waiting for someone to come along so you can reap the benefits of what they have; this applies to both men and women. Let's be proud of who we our and what we have accomplished.

@ Clinesha18...No I haven't seen any sneak peaks...like u said won't be suprised...I just based my comment off what I've read so far...but isn't this how some of those crazy reality shows get their ideas...
I like you're idea for the singles counseling part...if that's what's needed...then these people need to do more to promote issues like that...there's definatley alot of of misconception of marriage by singles prior to being married.... and onless you're really ready for that road...I wouldn't advise anyone to persue marriage... unless u know ur really ready...but to tell you the truth you're never really ready....
I'm not sure if you're a religious person...but I know something that helped me is spaeking with respected figure in church, pastor (I'm sure ur sceptical about that one) but that's thier job or pastor's wife...or just someone who has been down that route and just ask questions...Good Luck!

It's good to see lauren london getting back in the swing of things, but playing best friends with lisa raye and stacey dash? she should be playing the niece or daughter of one of the other two, the age difference is huge (london=25 lisa raye=43 dash=44). Unless they became best friends at work, then i can see that.

I agree. Why do we need to see another movie/show about women trying to find a man? I'm actually sick of the recent stories & media making single Black women seem like they can't find or keep a man, or that getting divorced and being single is a death sentence.
Personally I hate those reality shows and I do not watch them because they paint Black women in a negative light. Not all Black women are groupies following around and whoring ourselves for ball players, music artists, etc. Those women t are simply nothing but gold diggers achieving fame through whoring themselves. They are also selfish because they don't think about the impact that their behavior has on our youth, or women my age. I work every day and I am now working towards getting my PhD, I'm young, beautiful, single, independent and happy. I have a group of friends with the same status and we don't spend our time crying about not having a man. I also have a couple of married friends and like you said marriage takes work. Both parties have to do the work in order to have a successful marriage. My parents have been married for 35 years and they are still in love with each other. My older sister and two brothers are also married with children and happy.
Like you I believe in having my own. Knowing that I can support myself and have something that I can bring to the table if I should happen to meet a man that I want to spend my life with. Right now life is good. I work hard and play hard; not having a man doesn't keep me up at night. I'm already complete. I don't need a man to define me. Sure sometimes I get lonely but having a man won't stop those feelings.
I want to see more women like myself represented in a positive light. I hope that Queen Latifah doesn't make this about those types of women that I despise. She should make a movie about strong Black women being successful in their own right. I admire Queen Latifah, but if this movie turns out the way we all know it probably will I won't see her as a role model anymore.

I'm just waiting on the day that The Queen comes out and say she likes women...that she is gay, and is it true that her and her trainer, stylist or somebody of that nature were messing around? Then heard that her and Muhammad Ali's daughter, Layla(or however u spell her name) where messing around secretively. and poor VH1, another all-time low that u have to exploit single women in this way eh? smh

They lost me with Lisa Raye no acting behind and one of Lil Wayne's many baby momma's, I have no desire to see either of these women do anything. The age difference is to huge between Lil Wayne's baby momma she is in her 20's. Ms.Dash and Lisa Raye these women are well over 40.

Queen Latifah knows exactly what she's doing, picking all pretty women for these various roles. *hint hint*
