Afton C. Williamson, who made her Broadway debut in 'Joe Turner's Come and Gone,' will be taking over the role of Susan from Kerry Washington in David Mamet's theater play 'Race.'
The Eastern Michigan University grad, who's currently an understudy in the play, will start her performances on June 15.
She replaced Washington on the one night Kerry missed a performance, due to a previous obligation to go to the White House as part of the President's National Arts Council.
The current cast stars Emmy Award winner James Spader, Tony nominee and television star David Alan Grier, Kerry Washington and Richard Thomas.
As previously announced, Dennis Haysbert will be replacing Grier on June 21. Both Grier and Washington will play their final performances on Sunday, June 13. Spader will play his final performance on Sunday, June 20.
'Race' is the riveting new play by America's foremost playwright, Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner David Mamet ('Glengarry Glen Ross,' 'Speed-the-Plow,' 'American Buffalo,' 'November'), in which three attorneys, two black and one white, are offered a chance to defend a white man charged with a crime against a black woman.

Just saw Afton Williamson in "Race". She should not be on a Broadway stage. She memorised her lines, well, though. Good job.
