Black Voices has exclusively learned that Khalil Kain, best known for his role in the 1992 hip-hop film 'Juice,' has been cast in Tyler Perry's 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.'
According to our sources, Kain's character will be paired with Tony Award-winning 'Princess and the Frog' star Anika Noni Rose.
The 45-year-old New York native, who recently got some shine as Darnell in the popular TV series 'Girlfriends,' joins Omari Hardwick, Isaiah Mustafa and Richard Lawson as the men in the film.
Other actors will be named at a later date.
Based on Ntozake Shange's award-winning 1975 play, 'Colored Girls' is scheduled to shoot in June in New York with a possible late-2010 release.
The riveting play, consisting of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women known only by a color,- deal with such subjects as love, abandonment, rape and abortion. The play garnered much acclaim, becoming the toast of Broadway when it opened at the Booth Theater in 1976.
Already cast in the movie are Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine and Macy Gray.
Kain made his feature-film debut playing opposite rapper Tupac Shakur and Omar Epps in Ernest Dickerson's 'Juice,' which is considered a hip-hop classic.
He then appeared in numerous TV shows, including 'Girlfriends.' He also appeared in an episode of 'The Ghost Whisperer' and on the series 'Medium.'

Wow. Good for Khalil. I haven't heard about the brotha for a minute. I'm glad he's doing well. His mother, June, was such a great mentor coming up.

I cannot wait to see this movie. Unfortunately I never got a chance to see the play back in the day. I am so glad that Tyler Perry cast people who can actually act.

Great addition, Tyler! It will be nice to see Khalil Kain back in front of the camera because it's been a while since I saw him in anything. I saw the play and I know Tyler Perry will do a great job on the remake ( superb cast Tyler ). Tyler really knows how to turn plays into box office hits and even though he didn't write "For colored Girls " I know he will do justice to this great play :)

Sounds like an interesting project. Tyler seems to be really picking his choices for this movie carefulley. Can't wait to see the end result and see what Janet is going to bring out of herself for it. Congrats to Khalil Kain for landing the role . He is a good actor and he doesn't look 45 either.

I got the chance to see the play last year directed by Jasmine Guy [Whitley from A Different World] at 14th Street Playhouse in Atlanta. It was awesome. Jasmine did a great job directing, very talented lady and super friendly too! She's a real sista in every sense and I wish her well. Not sure if the play is touring but if it comes to your town, check it out.

What a strong cast. I believe we should really continue to support someone who has been true to the game of life. Mr. Perry donates to most worthy causes and presents us in true to form ways. GOD bless you brother, please stay true and success will continue to come your way.
Lets continue to pray for his success ,safety and protection from the evils of the the world.
