With writer-director Michael Patrick King and the whole gang back, 'Sex and the City 2' is as dry as the country they leave the city for.
Not only are the jokes unfunny, but the film is too long at a running time of two hours and 27 minutes.
The plot is also as thin as a pencil, and New York City, which is the centerpiece of the series and unofficial fifth character, is no longer part of the equation.
Despite all this, fans of the long-running HBO series and first blockbuster are sure to buck the critics and flock to the theater.
When last seen, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) had all their problems resolved. Carrie finally married Mr. Big aka John J. Preston (Chris Noth). Miranda forgave her husband, Steve, for cheating on her. Charlotte became pregnant after adopting, and Samantha moved back to New York to be with her girls after experiencing a midlife crisis.

Picking up two years later, all seems to be right on the outside as the girls are set to attend the wedding of Stanford and Anthony. Once there, cracks in their lives start to unravel: Carrie clearly isn't settled on being a married woman and having to give up going out every night. Charlotte's kids are entering the terrible twos, Miranda isn't as composed as usual with the stress of work taking a toll on her family, and Samantha's facing menopause.
After Samantha receives a work-related, all-expense-paid trip to Abu Dhabi, in which her girls are allowed to tag along, the comfort of being single again without their significant others is enough for the girls to easily say yes, and off they go.
Halfway across the world, the girls find themselves lavished with their own private suite on the plane and their own cars once they reach the Middle East.

Miranda is the leader of activities, getting the girls to go camel riding and shopping. Still, danger looms when Carrie runs into old flame Aidan (John Corbett) and Samantha breaks cultural laws when her flirtation runs rampant.
When the first film made a robust $415 million worldwide, producers just knew a sequel was inevitable.
One can argue that taking the girls out of New York City is a big no-no, and placing them in a country where the culture is not in sync with their lifestyles is a misstep.
The best way to describe this film is that it's excessive from the running time, to the clothes, to the constant whining from Charlotte, to Samantha's compulsion for sex, and to Carrie's craving for shoes. For once, Miranda is the bearable one.
Fans of the series will be happy to see their favorite characters back on the screen, and it gives them a reason to go out as a group to see this ultimate chick flick.

Nice to see a film with no main characters that are black.
But, of course, that's only because it's based on an OLD television series and a preceding sequel. Any entirely new movie concept must have a black lead in order to be politically correct.
In the movies, blacks are always successful and are the heroes, completely at odds with real life where blacks are disproportionately incarcerated, unemployed, poor, illiterate, and obese.

The tv show and 1st movie was about women who are friends, their realtionships with men, fashion and of course New York. What does any of that have to do with what you just wrote? Absolutely nothing so stop complaining. Iam a black woman who loved the show and the movie. Not every show or movie needs to have a black person in it to make it relevant.

I totally agree. In fact, I would go further than your statement and say "No show or movie needs to have black person in it to make it relevant."

Hi Bill:
Your campaign of hate does nothing for your wrinkels. In the real world you are the middle aged serial killers. In the real world black people are lawyers, doctors, yes some of them unemployed never illeterate to the extent that you are your racism makes you illerate and dead inside. Middle-age White man who is inferior to the Kings and Queens of the original Man you are jealous of our strength because We are a race of beautiful resilent people who are intelligent and your white reign is up God is changing the game plan and you are being left out. Rev. Graham said: "If God does not Judge America, than he has to apologize for Sodom and Gomorrah". Unemployment, being poor, illiterate, and obese are in all races and not synonmous to African Americans good by stupid illiterate middle-age enlarged ears and nose ugly inside and out white man.

LMAO!! Bill,Bill,Bill. Yeah,I can see how much you "love" Black people. All people have faults. Including Whites. The RACIST Whites such as yourself. I've worked with Whites in the military and also in the civilian world. There are some cool White people. But there are also some racist bastards. But I respect the one's who are racist and are UP FRONT with it. Unlike yourself. And please just because you post a first and last name on here don't let that go to your head. I can be Paul Raymond or Oscar Chandler. My point is this,Bill,I probably pass you and others like you in the street everyday. Yeah you hate my guts but are to chickenshit to say anything. I'm no tough guy but I'm not obese or out of shape either. Nor am I a coward. I go to stormfront once in a while and it's been the same thing for years "RaHoWa". Then nothing. A racial holy war where the aryan will wipe the muds of the map. Yeah...okay. Even in the Pacific Northwest,Oregon and Washington,a skinhead bastion,Black gangs from L.A. do as they please. Skinheads outnumber them something like 10 to 1 almost. The story of the movie Decons Of Defense was based on Black World War Two veterans protecting their neighborhood from the Klan. And you know what Bill? The Klan stopped their attacks when they ran into seasoned warriors and not old people and teens. Someone who was not afraid to shoot back! My point is you can say all of this stuff online. But if we were face to face you'd either ignore me or try to strike up a bullshit conversation. You should have been in Iraq with me. Lol!! You're sad Bill. That's why I don't get into flame wars or talk crap online. I'm only 37 but I am old school. I have 2 boys and 2 girls. I don't want my boys seeing me behave as a coward would. I'd rather talk my way out of a confrontation, but if not...then whatever. But the sad part is you may or may not read this. And even if you do you'll be back on here with your bullshit. This seems to be a pastime of yours. I feel bad for your father. My kids are proud of me because I behave as a man should with honor and courage. You get on a keyboard and write checks your ass can't cash because you have anonymity. That's like teasing a caged tiger. And you find nothing wrong with that.

Bill you have to be one of the worse types of human beings on earth. Yes,even WORSE than a racist. You are what I'd call a "devil" and not in racist sense. But in the sense that you start trouble where there was NONE before. What started as a nice little movie review YOU turned into your own little "white supremacy" soap box. No one here disrespected you. The first post out of your mouth was racist and insulting. I'm a White guy and I come to BV on occasion. Are there racist Black folks here? You bet! BUT,there are also some very cool down to earth people who show RESPECT! You give Whites a bad name!

I think your pathetic observation regarding black people says more about your obviously miserable life than about black culture. You sound as though you are full of hatred and it seems to begin with hate for yourself because if YOU don't like YOU, it is impossible to find anything positive in anyone else. It sounds as though you are living an unfulfilled life and putting others down with your racially charged comments is the only way you can cope. How very sad...for YOU.
