In an interview with U.K.'s Digital Spy, director Antoine Fuqua mentioned that his next film will be a biopic on slain rap legend Tupac Shakur.
Morgan Creek Productions will produce the film, with shooting to start in September.
No actor has been tapped to play Tupac yet as Fuqua stated in the interview, "That's the goal. I want to discover someone new. ... I want to discover a lot of new people if I can. Obviously I'm going to have to put some people in it that you know, just because actors have different skills. I want to go to the streets and find him anywhere he might be in the world."
Fuqua's last film, 'Brooklyn's Finest,' starred Don Cheadle, Richard Gere and Wesley Snipes, but it didn't do so well at the box office, only grossing $31.3 million worldwide.
Born on June 16, 1971, Tupac Amaru Shakur was the son of a former Black panther. His conflicts with other rappers helped spark the East Coast–West Coast hip-hop rivalry. The Harlem native died of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest at the age of 25 in 1996 after falling victim to a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. With more than 75 million albums sold worldwide, he's one of the best-selling music artists to date.
As an actor, Tupac appeared in notable films such as 'Juice,' 'Poetic Justice' and 'Above the Rim.' In 2009's 'Notorious,' the biopic on Christopher "Notorious B.I.G" Wallace, actor Anthony Mackie played the role of Tupac.

Well, it's about time. As long as it's NOT Anthony Mackie again because he was NOT believable as Pac in "Notorious". Plus he didn't look a thing like him. He was more annoying than anything.

I think Antoine Fuqua is a super film director. I have a son, his name is Olan Thompson-aka (Mr. Tan). He was in the movie "Baby Boy", he played the role of "Chris". This was a wonderful movie directed by another super film director, John Singleton. I feel my son could play the role of Tupac very easily. My son is into rap, acting, writing. He is bi-coastal-- living in Los Angeles and New York. He has great talent as a rapper, has so music that he has written, that could be used as sound tracks for movies. You should hear some of his stuff- I am sure you would be highly impressed. He just needs a chance to follow up with his acting and to show the world his talent as a rapper. He's unbelievable. I hope my comment reaches you. Thank you.

To possibly play Tupac they should hunt down that guy that had everyone believing Tupac was alive a short while ago, when TMZ had a pic of him in a club or bar. That dude looked just like him.
On a different note, I didn't buy any of his music, however I liked Tupac's songs that were played on the radio. His voice was unique and he was a good rapper. I saw something on Fuse about him not too long ago and even though he was so young, I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed with his knowledge and/or philosophy on life and came to the conclusion that it was no wonder that he was such a great poet.
