Screen Gems has provided Black Voices with the first look at Boris Kodjoe in 'Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D,' the fourth film of the 'Resident Evil' franchise.

Directed by Paul WS Anderson, the film stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Spencer Locke, Wentworth Miller and Sienna Guillory.

'Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D' is based on the very popular video game series with the same name, but this time it will be in 3-D. It revolves around the character Alice (Jovovich), who is in a world ravaged by a virus infection that turns its victims into the undead. Alice continues her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights.

However, Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. They get a new lead that promises they'll be safe. This lead takes them to Los Angeles. Unfortunately when they arrive, they find that the city is overrun by thousands of undead, which causes Alice and her comrades to step into a deadly trap.

While speaking to Black Voices in 2009 as he was promoting his last film, 'Surrogates,' Kodjoe spoke about his role in the sci-fi post-apocalyptic film.

What's your role in 'Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D?'

Boris Kodjoe: I play Luther West, the leader of the survivors in L.A. Milla Jovovich's character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and she's wound up in L.A., which has been burning for three years. She comes across an L.A. jail surrounded be these half-dead, uhh...

Zombies?

Boris Kodjoe: Yeah, they're those monsters, what are they called? Anyway, she comes across the jail and there's a couple of survivors and she lands on top of the roof and partners up with me to fight the guys that are coming after them. We're trying to get all of the survivors out of the jail to safety.

Were you a fan of the franchise?

Boris Kodjoe: Yeah, I saw the first one which I thought was interesting. I really adore and respect her, and also Paul W.S Anderson, who is the director. He's married to her, and he's a tremendous visionary, he's got all these great ideas. What I like most about him is that he's so excited about what he does. He really loves his job. That always goes a long way, because when you go to work with a smile on your face the outcome can only be positive. I love working with people who like what they do. He's definitely one of those guys. He led me around the studio when I was out there to meet with them. He's got it all worked out. He's working with them making new cameras that James Cameron's partner developed for 'Avatar.' All this stuff plays into this movie making it an experience I'm looking forward to.

Screen Gems will release the film on on September 10.
