Angela Bassett has joined the cast of 'Jumping The Broom,' starring Paula Patton, Laz Alonzo, Romeo Miller, and Loretta Devine.
Directed by Salim Akil, the wedding-themed ensemble comedy focuses on the clash of two black families from opposite ends of the socioeconomic spectrum meeting for the first time during a weekend wedding in Martha's Vineyard.
The Hollywood Reporter states that Bassett will play Patton's mother, an heiress and a pillar of the Washington elite. Miller plays Patton's cousin, a senior at Yale. Alonso will play Patton's love interest. Shooting begins in early summer in Nova Scotia.
Producing the film are Bishop T.D. Jakes, Curtis Wallace, Tracey Edmonds, Glendon Palmer and Elizabeth Hunter.
Bassett just finished shooting the comic book film adaptation of 'Green Lantern,' playing Dr. Amanda Waller. Martin Campbell directed the Warner Bros. film that stars Ryan Reynolds. She is casting her directorial debut, 'United States,' which is slated to start filming in the fall.

Uhhhh Paula is not young enough to play Angela's daughter. I hope they address this in the film, as if Bassett's character had Patton at a really young age. Other than that tiny bit of miscasting, I'm really excited to see Angela in a romantic comedy and I think her and Patton look enough alike to pull it off.

Nonesense. Of course, she's old enough. This is only acting so it really doesn't matter. Actress Jennifer Lewis plays plenty of mother characters and she's around the same age as Bassett. It's all about how an actress carries or portrays herself. Bassett and Lewis both have the maturity to play older characters and that's often what they're called on to play. And Bassett is in her fifties and Patton is in her thirties so even in reality, Bassett would have been 17 when Patton, (who was born in '75) was born. Patton is still youthful enough, in appearance and acting ability, to play younger roles. It's not that hard to comprehend. That's why it's called "acting".

I love Angela as well but let's not forget that she did play in TP movie meet the browns. That had to be the worst movie that she was in and I often wonder what made her do that movie. All the other movies that she has done were excellent because of her talent.

It is hard to give credit to a Black person without someone Black finding an exscuse to downplay that person. We hate to build our people up.Like crabs in a bucket. Angela Basset is good no matter what the movie is about, her character always stands up. You found one movie to find fault in my statement about her. Meet the Browns was a comedy movie and for those who love comedy movies it was funny, to bad you found the time to find fault. I did not like Meet the Browns, but it was no worse than those silly movies I see on TV nightly.
