In a surprising casting move, Zoe Kravitz, daughter of rocker and 'Precious' star Lenny Kravitz and 'Cosby Show' actress Lisa Bonet, has been chosen to play Angel in the upcoming comic book film, 'X-Men: First Class.'
Comic book fans and filmgoers who know the character and saw the last of the original X-Men trilogy, 'X-Men: The Last Stand' are aware that Angel is a white male and was played by Ben Foster in the third film.
According to Screenrant.com, "Angel is a character we thought for sure had no chance of being in the film ('First Class') since he was introduced in' X-Men 3' as someone with no prior knowledge or ties with the X-Men. If you're keeping track, the 'X-Men: First Class' movie currently only sits with two of the five actual original characters from Marvel Comics canon and one arguably shouldn't be there. That being said, this clearly isn't the same Angel we know but instead, the character known as Angel Salvadore."
Interesting enough, the 21 year-old Kravitz was dating Foster back in 2008.

Kravitz joins Edi Gathegi, who was previously cast as Darwin, as the only African Americans in the film.
With Matthew Vaughn directing, 'X-Men: First Class,' following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga.
Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto. It starts when they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.
Here's the cast so far.
James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier
Michael Fassbender as Magneto
Bill Milner as Young Magneto
Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast
Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee
Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique
Morgan Lily as Young Mystique
Kevin Bacon as the villain
Edi Gathegi as Darwin
Jason Flemyng as Azazel, the father of Nightcrawler
Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert
Oliver Platt as The Man in Black
January Jones as Emma Frost
Zoe Kravitz as Angel
20th Century Fox will release 'X-Men: First Class' in theaters on June 3, 2011.

I hate it when hollywood tinkers around with a good story. Sometimes in the haste to politically correct to throw in a minority you can ruin a good story that everyone loved. and whats banshee doing in there??

I agree, and they still fucked up anyway because the original class is Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Beast, and the real Angel (Warren Worthington). If they wanted to have a more diverse cast in terms of ethnicity, then they should just follow it up with the second class (Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler and Forge). Instead of being greedy and trying to cram everything into one movie (Wolverine), they should respect Stan Lee's vision. If they mess up the Avengers though, somebody should drop a nuke on Disney.

@death-site81: Dont forget Iceman was also in the original class. They messed that up to in the movies by making him a student while Cyclops and Jean were teachers. He should have been a teacher too.

As a black man, I am totally offended by this comment. My race has many different hues. What is "white minded" anyway? Someone who likes alternative music or speak with proper diction? Or is it someone who went to a diversely populated college? If being black minded means acting like some "thug" in a rap video, then I'm in the white camp. All black people did not grow up in the hood. I guess Michelle Obama is white minded as well. That is the most ignorant comment I ever heard. You're no better than the KKK.

I guess y'all forgot that both her paents are bi-ricial, 1/2 black, 1/2 white, just like President Obama. So if she seems so-caled "white" minded, perhaps its because she actually is 1/2 white, duh!

@lisa bonet and lenny kravitz are white minded:
I guess you know all about being "black" huh? Is being "black" about being judgmental? Or cowardly like you since you hid behind a slanderous name and unwilling to put a real username down. Being black is no different from being human and bonet and kravitz are just being themselves.

She's not playing Angel. Angel Salvatore is the name of Tempest, a different character altogether.
