Lionsgate announced that it will release Tyler Perry's 'For Colored Girls' on Nov. 5 instead of its original launch date during Martin Luther King weekend in 2011.
The move, which would put the film in a good position to snag year-end awards consideration, also continues Perry's streak of releasing at least one film per year since 2005.
"It's a serious film that really lends itself to the fall period. From talking with exhibitors, I know they're really excited to have another Tyler Perry film this year," said David Spitz, Lionsgate's executive vice president and general sales manager.
'For Colored Girls' is based on Ntozake Shange's award-winning 1975 play of the same name. The story consists of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women known only by a color. The characters deal with subjects such as love, abandonment, rape and abortion.

The cast includes Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Loretta Devine, Anika Noni Rose, Thandie Newton, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Phylicia Rashad, Macy Gray, Tessa Thompson, Michael Ealy, Hill Harper, Khalil Kain, Omari Hardwick and Richard Lawson.
Competing against the film on Nov. 5 will be the Paramount-DreamWorks Animation 3-D toon 'Megamind,' starring Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Brad Pitt, and Warner Bros.' Todd Phillips-directed 'Due Date,' with Robert Downey, Jr., Zach Galifianakis, Michelle Monaghan and Jamie Foxx.

Isn't Tyler Perry the one that dresses up as that obnoxious old woman? I forget her name, but I saw her in more than one of his all-black movies on cable TV. For some reason, blacks find this obnoxious old black woman funny, just why is beyond me.

Bill Schrier,
I am so sorry that you have so much time on your hands that all you
could do is find time to downgrade the black race. I can see that this
is really upsetting you but please don't lose any sleep on our
(meaning black people) account. Our purpose is not to upset you(even
though we black people really have 400+ years of justification to do
so). Instead of focusing on us why don't you focus on yourself to
better yourself and then this hatred you have won't affect your
health. That's just a thought in case you do have people that
actually like you. Best wishes to you and to Tyler Perry.

We (as in they) find Madea funny because in every Afican-American family we used to have a "Madea." Madea means mother dear. That is what many used to call their grandmothers. Our grandmothers that were older at that time weren't that out there bur there were some who were close enough. Everyone had a "Madea." Madea was the one in the family that kept everyone straight. She was the go to person. You could get good advise, learn something from her. She had wisdom even though her educational level may not have been that high. She had what we call "mother-whit." I can tell you are not African-American because you would have known why many of us think she is funny. I guess it's just not your kind of humor.

most likely for the same reasons that some people find I love Lucy so funny.

Bill,
I would just like to clarify that I am not a "black" person and I find Madia (Tyler Perry's obnoxious old woman character) funny! So not all blacks find her funny.. I find some of Tyler Perry's movies to be uplifting, wholesome and true! I don't understand why so many people are still looking at color and not looking at people in general!
A coworker told me the other day that Tyler Perry making movies that are all colored actors is racist and I think that is BS!! She asked me to name the last time I saw a White movies with no Black people in it!! Ok "Letter's to Juliette" "Its Complicated" "Julie and Julia" "Ever After" and thats just to name a few.. I could go on! So yes we do have just White movies where the only Black people you see are extras.. So get over the colored issue and look at the big picture.. That we are all one Race.. The Human Race!!

Bill you pretty much sum up how stupid and ignorant a human being can truly be. You have a very sad "view" dude. Not all African-American's are 'entertained' by Mr. Perry's films. An even larger amount despise the character named, Madea. Be respectful of others who don't share your "superior" hair texture or skin color, am I right? Is that how you feel? It is ridiculous to even have that view living today in 2010. People like you don't need to procreate and keep hate going because you only look like a neandrathol.

Never been on welfare and we live in the suburbs of nj...even though I hate the madea movies and most of tyler perry's productions, I appreciate him for representing me and my friends in his movies.
