Deadline.com is reporting that 'Precious' actress Paula Patton has landed the lead female role in the fourth installment of the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise.
The Los Angeles native will play a young operative who works with Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt character. The website also stated that the film will not be called 'Mission: Impossible 4.' Cruise and J.J. Abrams, who hatched the project together, always envisioned it as a franchise reboot. The film begins production in the fall, with Brad Bird directing Cruise, who'll co-star alongside Jeremy Renner, of 'The Hurt Locker,' who landed the other hotly contested role.
Patton, who was recently cast as the new assistant district attorney for the NBC drama series 'Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,' apparently beat out actresses Lauren German and Kristen Kreuk for the coveted spot.
Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg are also returning to the franchise.
Patton, who is married to singer-songwriter Robin Thicke and gave birth to their son, Julian Fuego, in April, just completed shooting the romantic film 'Jumping the Broom.' Directed by Salim Akil ('Girlfriends'), the film also stars Angela Bassett, Laz Alonso, Mike Epps, Loretta Devine, Meagan Good, Tasha Smith, DeRay Davis, Julie Bowen, Romeo Miller, Gary Dourdan, Pooch Hall, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Valarie Pettiford.
Her last film, 'Just Wright,' which starred Queen Latifah and Common comes out on DVD on Sept. 14.
The new 'Mission: Impossible' is planned for a Dec. 16 release.

Is she white? And, who cares? Bring on Grace Jones and then maybe I'll take notice. Tom Cruise is washed up anyway.

Dee,
She is bi racial but prefers to be '"ermed" as black..Her own words are:
"I find [the term biracial] offensive. It’s a way for people to separate themselves from African-Americans….a way of saying ‘I’m better than that, I’m black because that’s the way the world sees me.”

Time to cast a new star in Tom Cruise's place. He is washed up and we don't want to look at the poster child for a pseudo religion that came in on the UFO's from outer space.

what does his religious beliefs have to do with his acting ability? You are obviously a narrow minded bigot.

What the hell another mission impossible bomb. The first was good just good and from there the movies should have gone the way of the cutting room floor.Tom Cruise always envisioned it as a reboot.Thats because they are talentless hacks that could not come up with an original idea if someone handed them a script and said hey I just came up with this and its great. The first question out of toms mouth would be do I actually have to have talent to star in this or can I just read my lines in a monotone voice and maybe do some running while everything around me blows up.I can't even think of the last good Tom Cruise movie.

No she is not white but what if she was, would that make a difference. If that is the first thing that concern you clearly have a problem. How very sad for you.

who gives a rip about her ethnic background? Can she act, should be the question. Obviously the answer would be yes. Why must people always try to create discord by bringing up race or religion? Who cares about Tom Cruise's religion? He can still act and in a movie THAT is all that counts. The only 'race' that should be an issue is THE HUMAN RACE.. Skin color should be a non-issue.

Not thinking the flick will be a best seller at the box office now. Guess Cruise must be on the way down. Time to do something else.
