Deadline.com is reporting that 'Precious' actress Paula Patton has landed the lead female role in the fourth installment of the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise.
The Los Angeles native will play a young operative who works with Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt character. The website also stated that the film will not be called 'Mission: Impossible 4.' Cruise and J.J. Abrams, who hatched the project together, always envisioned it as a franchise reboot. The film begins production in the fall, with Brad Bird directing Cruise, who'll co-star alongside Jeremy Renner, of 'The Hurt Locker,' who landed the other hotly contested role.
Patton, who was recently cast as the new assistant district attorney for the NBC drama series 'Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,' apparently beat out actresses Lauren German and Kristen Kreuk for the coveted spot.
Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg are also returning to the franchise.
Patton, who is married to singer-songwriter Robin Thicke and gave birth to their son, Julian Fuego, in April, just completed shooting the romantic film 'Jumping the Broom.' Directed by Salim Akil ('Girlfriends'), the film also stars Angela Bassett, Laz Alonso, Mike Epps, Loretta Devine, Meagan Good, Tasha Smith, DeRay Davis, Julie Bowen, Romeo Miller, Gary Dourdan, Pooch Hall, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Valarie Pettiford.
Her last film, 'Just Wright,' which starred Queen Latifah and Common comes out on DVD on Sept. 14.
The new 'Mission: Impossible' is planned for a Dec. 16 release.

Just what the world needs. Another sequel to a milked dry franchise. Hollywood sucks. Stay home.

I think the world sees her as a wannabee other than black. What an ego to say how other people see her, maybe if she had a decent personality people would see her a a good person, rather than a color. Shes a looser, so is Tom Cruise, no one is going to waste money on these two, and the franchise is old, (like Tom)

..and just how is someone going to "see"you as a good person?..Ms. Patton is referring to her appearance, not judging her on her personality...she is an actress, not a racial template.

You sound real STUPID!! Obama is half black half white but people still see him as a BLACK MAN!! she's just saying what you and everybody already thinks. Besides she's a great actress regardless of her race. And she's not racist her husband is WHITE!!!

I love how in the movies the guys keep getting older but the females leads they cast keep getting younger. It really is kind of wierd that the male lead is in his late 40's early 50's but the female lead is in her very early 20's. How about some age appropriate casting.

I went to see the first one. I was so disgusted with the way they altered the premise from the original TV series that I haven't even watched 2 & 3 on free TV. I have no doubt that 4 will be just as altered, if not more so. I won't be watching this either.
