With shooting already underway in Memphis, TN, Cicely Tyson has been added to the 'The Help,' which stars Viola Davis.
The 76 year old New York native will play a maid named Constantine Jefferson. She was last seen in Tyler Perry's 'Why Did I Get Married Too?'
Based on the novel by Kathryn Stockett and set in Mississippi during the 1960s, 'The Help' stars Emma Stone as Skeeter, a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends' lives-and a small Mississippi town-upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families.

Academy Award nominee Viola Davis stars as Aibileen, Skeeter's best friend's housekeeper, who is the first to open up-to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community. Despite Skeeter's life-long friendships hanging in the balance, she and Aibileen continue their collaboration and soon more women come forward to tell their stories-and as it turns out, they have a lot to say. Along the way, unlikely friendships are forged and a new sisterhood emerges, but not before everyone in town has a thing or two to say themselves when they become unwittingly-and unwillingly-caught up in the changing times.
Directed by Tate Taylor, the film also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Octavia Spencer, Aunjanue Ellis, Mike Vogel, Dana Ivey, Brian Kerwin, David Oyelowo, and Tony Award winner LaChanze.

Ms.Cicely Tyson is looking really gorgeous :} Cicely Tyson has earned enough street cred-so if she wants to play the maid-so be it. "The Help"has all of the right actors in it-I'm looking forward to seeing this movie :}
The truth is-we as a race-are way pass the stereotyping of our own kind. Ms. Tyson is a great thespian and she will honor her craft by being the best maid on any side of the mason dixie-line :}
Ms. Hattie McDaniels played a maid-yet her talents were far beyond such a role. But she was an actor/singer-just diversely talented person who played that role to a tee:}
I remember Leslie Uggams played a maid/nanny in Roots and I felt so sorry for her character-that I had to keep reminding myself-she's just playing a role. Blacks have suffered like that but Leslie was just playing a role:{

Lest we forget. The Jew does not forget. The Indians the Blacks should not forget all our forparents had to endure just to stay alive. Thje white man here in america sold his own flesh and blood on the slave blocks, separated families. I say tell it all the brutality in plain language all people an understand. Hitler wasn't the only nut that had and caused a holacost We had our own. Infecting blacks the Tuskeege research. Lynchings , maimings. I will see this movie/ And I am so glad Cicely Tyson is goingf to do this role I have to say they have a HELL of a cast. Keep up the history telling the book have been white washed . These kids now days think the way thing are now they don't have to do anything. We have to teach them our rights are being taken away everyday. We want to have democracy in Iraq Afganastan etc, well what about the citizens here in America. Oh don't get me started and get on my soap box. Tell the story tell it all. and put the reality out there for all to see and remember.

Scoots,I am 100% in agreement with your decision to tell it like it is.Iam ready to write a book regarding the maids and some of the unimaginable situations they encountered durning the years of segregation. [based on) true incidents.ie,babies born to black women ,fathered by massa . mother mistreated by massas's wife . maid allowed time off to give birth . Returned to work of cooking, washing clothing by hand , cleaning floors.exhibiting a profound fear of making eye contact with massa or his wife. Should this happen. The maid could be slapped or kicked by massa or his wife.......

Not in your life time. Are you going to write a book based on your experiences. I am sure you have never had a master. Nor have I ever had a slave. By all means, please continue to use it as a crutch for the rest your life. It gives you a good excuse to be angry.

Playing a MAID ISN'T the worst thing in the in the world to do... She's not playing a hooker.. Geesh in today's society you'll lucky to find a job as a maid...

Amy, it's ok to talk about the Holocausts because it's appears most have just moved on plus given lots of money to sustain a lifestyle.. While the Holocausts was a horrific act of any kind so was slavery but guess what they weren't given not one dime not even the 40 acres promised however Amy we have moved on and in great numbers and some have done very well Amy at least those that wanted to but Amy we don't need any excuse to be angry Amy, look around and you will determined whose truly Amy and it's not just black. And you don't know what someone will or will not do in their lifetime. The sky is the limit and you can't be the judge.
