Last night, Black Voices attended the premiere and after party of Tyler Perry's 'For Colored Girls.'
Held at The Ziegfeld Theater in New York City, with the exception of Whoopi Goldberg, who's performing 'Sister Act' in London, and Michael Ealy, who's out of town, the entire cast (Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Anika Noni Rose, Thandie Newton, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Phylicia Rashad, Macy Gray, Tessa Thompson, Hill Harper, Khalil Kain, Omari Hardwick and Richard Lawson) were present, along with director/ writer Tyler Perry, producers Roger M. Bobb and Paul Hall, and author Ntozake Shange.
Once the screening ended, the cast attended the after party at The Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel.

Other celebrities in attendance included Governor David Paterson and his wife Michelle, AJ Calloway, Anthony Mackie, Bianca Lawson, Ciara, Condola Phyleia Rashād, former NFL players Curtis Martin and Harry Carson, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Estelle, Hill Harper, De'Adre Aziza, Eisa Davis, Colman Domingo, publicist Marvet Britto, talent agent Charles King, John Singleton, Lance Gross, singer Ledisi, Tony Award winner Montego Glover ,Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, Niecy Nash, Patti Labelle, Ruby Dee, Shane Mosley, and Veronica Webb.
Set for theatrical release of Nov.5, 'For Colored Girls' is based on Ntozake Shange's award-winning 1975 play of the same name. The story consists of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women known only by a color. The characters deal with subjects such as love, abandonment, rape and abortion.

Looking good. I will definitely support it. This is the only vehicle for black actors right now. So, lets be there. One more thing, are Ciara and Niecy cast members or did they just sniff out another red carpet within a thousand miles and showed up?! LOL! I swear Ciara is at the opening of every envelop and Niecy hasn't met a red carpet she doesn't like. I am surprised the Kardashians missed the opportunity to be seen...er...see the movie. Yeah. Thats it. See the movie. Sigh!

Actually it's not the only vehicle for black actors. N-Secure is currently out and it has an all African-American cast. I will definitely go see this.
