After months of rumors and talks of remaking 'A Star is Born' with Grammy winner Beyonce as one of the lead stars, there's finally a solid name that could make the film come to fruition.
Deadline.com is reporting that Oscar winning director Clint Eastwood is on board to helm and co-produce the film, with a script by Will Fetters.
The story, about a famed aging, alcoholic musician who mentors/is schooled by and then finds romance with a younger female star, was first done in 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. Judy Garland and James Mason starred in the 1954 remake, and Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson were in the 1976 version.
Billy Gerber and Jon Peters, who directed the third version, will serve as the other producers.
There was speculation in early 2010, through the LA Times, that Russell Crowe was once attached to the vehicle, although no male lead has been given the green light at this point.
Shopped around studios for years, many names were tossed around, including a Will Smith/Jennifer Lopez pairing, but nothing was set in stone.
Beyonce has proven that she could be a leading star and bring in audiences, having done so with her last film, 'Obsessed,' which opened at #1 at the box office in 2009 with a take of $28 million despite terrible reviews.
The question many will wonder is whether this new version's male lead will be Black or White?

The real question for me is why Beyonce? She is not a good actress and is only interested in getting an Oscar just because. He could have found someone else to play this role. Just saying.

I agree with you 100%, all her movies were a flop, she is not going to win no Oscar for nothing. I still don't like the fact that her father used all those other girls just to enhance her career and now the one that been with her from day one Kelly is facing Bankruptcy. Why she not helping her now that she needs help. I read where there was this small town who wanted her to perform there but many didn't have that kind of money to pay for tickets to see her and wanted her to perform at a lower rate she not only refuse to perform she would not lower her million dollars pay day. Where do she give back to anyone.

I agree with your comment, and other's might say we as women are "hatin" on her. But honestly speaking no matter how many roles or acting classes she has, she is NOT a GOOD actress, a lot of singers are not, for instance, Whitney Houston no matter how many movies they put her in she couldn't act, I feel the same way about "movies" such as Queen Latifah, she was kind of good in a series, not really believable, but in my opinion she can't act either. So folk singing and acting are not meant to be together, and their efforts may or may not bring them awards, but they definitely won't get my money.

I completely agree Beyonce is a terrible actor. She has no range at all. Jennifer Hudson would have been more believable.

I would love to see how Clint Eastwood is going to tackle this. I think more white directors should work with black actors and vice versa. I'm happy for Queen B! I did see a Star is Born staring Streisand and Krisofferson. The movie was okay to me---white oriented.

OMG. This movie is going to take some acting skills and Beyonce doesnt have any. I love her as a singer but she cant act her way out of a paper bag. I wished they would have picked Jennifer Hudson or even Queen Latifah.
