From Jezebel:
Salon's Joan Walsh dissects many of the recent stories about how white people feel that anti-white sentiment is on the rise. Look: It's not a competition. But when it comes to white people feeling discriminated against (Gothamist headline: "Regarding Racism, Whites Think They Are the New Blacks"), white people have no idea how soul-stomping, heartbreaking and difficult it is to be black in America.
Especially if you have dark skin. The clip above is from Dark Girls, an upcoming documentary "exploring the deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color - particularly dark skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture." Directed by Bill Duke and D. Channsin Berry, this clip is moving, powerful, emotional, and completely upsetting - yet an absolute must-see. Read more here.

Let, it be said that what's really heart breaking is that light skin black women themselves also hate on dark skin BW too! That happens all the time, and that's an all too well known reality in the black community. So, why aren't these commenters discussing that? Why blame others for dengaging in the very same behavior as do BW?

@Greg-AMEN! It kills me how blacks will get on websites like this and spout off fantasies when we remember the uproar over Alicia Keys' FACE versus Indie Arie's TALENT!
I was reading an article where every black female singer mentioned and pictured was light skinned (Beyonce, Rhianna, etc.). Robin Thicke made me laugh saying Paula Patton experiences racism. How many times did I hear people name darker skinned actresses who would have been better in "Jumping the Broom?" The media perfers light skinned black women over darker. Lets ask MJ (and most of Jackson fam)and Diana Ross why they preferred white mates and children with white features????
H@ look at Oprah's staff? Almost EVERY black woman is light skinned and she admitted she has color issues growing up. I'm shocked Lady O never had plastci surgery as much as she promoted and praised every light skinned chick on her show (Keys, Beyonce, Halle etc.) In my work place I sat in a meeting and we noticed almost all the blacks were light skinned hired by white people!!! So you naive people give me a d@ break. Most dark women (Oprah) use intelligence while light skinned women know the face will suffice...lets ask Michelle Obama????

I always knew Oprah had a color issue, probably because of the harassment she took growing up.
Oprah, had chris rock on her show, and showed progression photos of herself with different hairstyles on the show throughout the years. Then a childhood photos of herself, and Chris said "that photo was taken in your slavery days wasn't it" and Oprah fell out laughing.
Oprah just cherish lighter more than darker, because in darker, she see herself. Oprah is darker without her make-up.
But many Black women rejected other Black back in the day based on skin color and that hate went both ways. Myself, As a dark skin Black man every women that was attracted to me was a light, damn near white, Black women.
The high yella Sistahs caught it from the darker Sistahs also. Remember, the Spike lee movie, School Daze.
Yeah, there was some serious truths to that sh.t. Sistahs need much more self-esteem, and these women bashing rappers didn't help the situation.

Greg,
As a self-possessed, dark-skinned black woman, I've never dealt with a light-skinned black woman hating on me but I have met light-skinned black women who wished their skin was darker. I've also heard the same on a particular radio talk show that aired in my home town a while back. The pendulum swings both ways. Regarding this subject matter and the need to address it and speak about it--I find it to be absolutely ridiculous, especially in this day and age.

@Greg you are the only old white man that I know of that thinks he knows how black women think. I am pecan tan. I have always wanted to be closer to the color of the shell of the pecan. Why? Because it's a much more beautiful hue. It's richness and beauty is unmistakeable. I don't know where you get your information(prolly made it up in his lil mind) but most lightskin black women want to be darker and they do NOT hate the darker sistahs. You need to go back under your rock and stay out of black folks business.

Seriously speaking,it's us ,black men and mostly black women that are continuing this slave brainwashing mentality here in 2011,even though we have a black president with a darkskinned wife and darkskinned daughter.Today, unlike decades before, the most successful black women are brown or darkskinned, and they are beautiful. It seems that women mold themselves into whatever flavor black men, usually rappers, dictate their taste to be.Lil' Wayne spoutin'"redbone"(though he takes offense when his daughter is referenced.LL Cool J had girls lookin' like vampires cause he and Will Smith were talkin' bout "Light Eyes".Now rappers are makin' them blow their azzez up with chemicals, never mind the breasts.I guess women will allways suffer with low esteem because there are fathers in the home, and their daddys are arrogant self centered parasites.

What does having a father in the home do? Nothing really if the father does not act like he truly cares and adores his children and their mother. I grew up without a father and baby I turned out great. My mother was strong and my father was weak to drugs. She gave him chance after chance but she got tired and decided that her children comes first. He decided that drugs and liquor comes first. But she still raised us to be the best. You do not always need a father in the home when the mother can bear it all on her shoulders. Yes we struggled but her joy and determination got us through rough times. My three siblings and I have all graduated from college and love who we are no matter what skin color.

"...,black men and mostly black women that are continuing this slave brainwashing mentality here in 2011..."
This is where I disgree with you, Reita. In my experience, it's 'mostly' black men who are brainwashed and who are always talking about how they prefer anything light and white with long hair.
I'm glad that I don't have to look to others to validate me or my skin tone, but black people will let their own die out before admitting that they have a serious problem with color hierarchy.
